One Shots: ???

One Shots

There's a lot going on in our lead picture here. There are question marks, a fungus person, a pointedly staring frog, and enough colors to give Crayola a run for its money. But what is it about? What does it mean?

Reader Stacy helps clear things up: "That's mah frog. This was around April Fool's last year (those question marks are fireworks from that in-game event and are amazing in motion). This was my first house; I got it for free from the EverQuest in-game card game, so I did not have much decoration. I bought a bunch of pets from a man down the street and set them loose, then set off all my fireworks and partied the night away with frog and friends."

See, if we did most of these activities in real life, we'd be in jail. Aren't MMOs grand?

One Shots

Speaking of older MMOs, I've got one that I think has never graced a single One Shots in Massively's history. I think.

"Here is a shot of my old crew from Neocron circa 2003? Maybe?" reader Travis writes. "Anyway the game has recently been resurrected by former devs and is now 100% free-to-play."

Isn't it amazing how the memories can flood back from seeing a screenshot like this?

One Shots

Since we're on the subject of "oldies but goodies," Reader Tony sent us in another amusing scenario from EQ: "Just another night in the Innothule Swamp. My brother, Thud, is saying over the phone, 'Mmm. Tastes just like chicken!'"

Discussion question for the comments: Should MMOs come with "taste-o-matic" cards, and if they did, would you lick them?

One Shots

Bringing us home on our old school theme for this week, reader Justin (no relation) resurrects fond memories of a certain MMO from a galaxy far, far away...

"Here is a way back pic from Star Wars Galaxies, before the NGE," Justin said. "I was running a quest chain that led me to bother Vader and the Emperor. Unfortunately, the Emperor screenshot had the HUD, else I would have included it also. Before this point in the game, I felt fierce and powerful. Standing next to this man, I felt small and feeble. A humbling experience indeed."

I liked Vader more when he was just straight-up murdering diplomats, not children. Just saying.

That's it for this week! Remember, kids, don't trust any packaged food product with more than three ingredients on the label because at least two of them will be crushed bugs hiding under a different name.

Want to be featured in a future edition of One Shots? Send your favorite MMO screenshots to oneshots@massively.com, and don't forget to include your name, the name of the game, and a description of the scene. Large, colorful, UI-free shots that tell a story and really show off the game make for the best images. Look ma, we brought back One Shots!
