RPG 'Mystic Chronicles' moves from iOS to PSP

Natsume is localizing the PSP version of Kemco's Mystic Chronicles, a retro-style RPG developed by Kemco. Yes, Kemco's back, and has been quietly releasing RPGs on iOS and Android for a while! In fact, Mystic Chronicles was one of those mobile releases. Siliconera notes that it was called Fantasy Chronicles on iOS, and featured what appears to be a different translation.

Mystic Chronicles is a turn-based game in which protagonist Lux and other characters are accompanied by AI "guardian beasts," whose assignments and basic behaviors can be set by the player.

The PSP version is due this summer, and we hope for Natsume's sake it'll be downloadable on Vita immediately.%Gallery-185235%

CAST OF NATSUME'S MYSTIC CHRONICLES REVEALED

Classic RPG Coming To PSPŽ Sees New Story Twists

Burlingame, CA. - April 10, 2013 - Natsume Inc., a worldwide developer and publisher of family-oriented video games, today revealed some additional information for its upcoming PlayStationŽ Portable title, Mystic Chronicles. Developed by Kemco, the game became an immediate cult classic in Japan and will be landing in North America this summer. With its retro-style graphics, story-driven quests, and a turn-based battle system, Natsume is ready to reveal the background story of several playable characters, as well as a small glimpse of their Guardian Beasts.

"Mystic Chronicles boasts a colorful cast of characters, each with not only their own abilities and motivations, but also with their own personal Guardian Beasts," said Hiro Maekawa, President and CEO at Natsume. "We're excited for North American PSP owners to get to know these characters better and sink into the world of Mystic Chronicles."

Lux is the main character of Mystic Chronicles, and the player will control him for the majority of the game. This young man may seem like a simple village boy, but he's surrounded by a mysterious past that may come back to haunt him. He's very close to his sister, Fina.

Tina is a nun who players will meet early in the story. Strangely, this woman of the cloth looks a lot like Lux's sister, Fina. Is there some sort of connection between the two ladies? Lux is determined to find out.

Ray is a mysterious member of the ancient Dark Clan - and whether that connection will be blessed or cursed remains to be seen.

Alberto has known Lux since he was a child. A mentor to the youth and a captain in the Holos Guild, Alberto's guidance will become pivotal in some of the difficult decisions Lux's journey will lead him to make.

Corona is a young girl Lux meets in Holos. She's unhappy with her home life, and Lux looks like the perfect escape! She can be a bit precocious, and her roots are a mystery. Where did this girl come from exactly?

One of the most exciting features will be Mystic Chronicles' Guardian Beast system. This gameplay feature will have the player assigning a godlike beast to each character, and setting its AI to offensive, defensive, or healing. With lots of Guardian Beasts to mix and match among your party members, picking your favorite might be a quest in itself! Here are two of the numerous Guardians that players will meet during their journey:

Lucius is one of the most powerful Guardian Beasts in the world, and comes to Lux's aid at his most desperate hour.

Baron is a female Guardian Beast, whose primary charge is Corona. She's not simply a protector to the young girl, but often acts like a mother figure to her as well. How did these two form such an unusual bond, and will it survive the trials ahead?

Mystic Chronicles follows the story of a mysterious youth, Lux, adopted by a small village. Lux has just begun his training to join the Holos Guild, a society charged with ridding the world of troublemakers. However, a chance meeting with a young girl sets in motion a series of events that sets Lux on a far more serious quest than just defeating ornery forest creatures! Could Lux end up being the savior of the entire world?!
