Special Forces Team X getting price drop after going on sale on Steam

Special Forces: Team X, the third-person shooter from Blacklight: Retribution developer Zombie Studios, is taking its price down to $5 on Steam from May 6 at 10 a.m. PT, through May 13. After the sale, Special Forces: Team X will get a permanent price drop to $10, forever and ever, or until Zombie Studios, publishers Atari and/or Microprose decide to change that number again. Before 10 a.m. PT today, Special Forces: Team X costs $15.

Special Forces: Team X is a cel-shaded, cover-based shooter with more than 100 possible map combinations and five multiplayer modes. When it first hit Steam in February, the game had a bug that could randomly reset character XP, but that issue has been resolved via a series of patches, Microprose says in a press release. A Title Update for the XBLA version is in testing now.

"We are hoping that this price drop will bring players into the game that may have been scared away by the initial launch problems," the press release reads.

"SPECIAL FORCES: TEAM X" STEAM SALE AND PRICE DROP

INNOVATIVE TEAM BASED SHOOTER NOW AT A HARD TO RESIST PRICE

NEW YORK, NY. – MAY 6, 2013 - Microprose, together with publisher Atari, Inc., announced today that "Special Forces: Team X" will go on sale next week for the exceptional price of $4.99 (£3.99/€4.99).

This temporary price drop will be available from May 6th starting at 10am PDT and will last for one week. At the end of the sale week, there will be a permanent price point of $9.99 (£7.99/€8.99).

Launched in February, Special Forces: Team X (STX) is a fast-paced tactical 3rd person cover based shooter with a twist. By throwing customization fully into players' hands with its real time map selection system, the battlefield is divided into three distinct areas, with the layout of each determined by the teams in the pregame lobby. Over one hundred possible combinations give every match a unique look and feel, for a constant tactical challenge. The game also features 5 multiplayer modes that include new game types like Hot Zone and High Value Target and asymmetrical gameplay supporting 2, 3 or even 4 teams.

In a statement, Microprose said "Initially, the game launched with a bug that could randomly reset character XP under certain conditions, and we deeply apologize to any of our players that had to experience this. However, since then multiple patches have been released on Steam to address the issue and also to subtly alter the play mechanics based on customer feedback, which we believe now delivers a faster paced and smoother experience. We are hoping that this price drop will bring players into the game that may have been scared away by the initial launch problems." A Title Update for the XBLA version is currently in the final stages of testing.

Since release, multiple Steam community groups have set up to support the game offering regular events, competitions and a ready roster of comrades to do battle with. These groups include SFTXEvents, Special-Forces-Team-X and SFTXPG.
