Atlanta: January 8, 2013 – babbel.com, the popular online system for learning foreign languages, has now made the majority of its courses and features available for iPad. The Berlin-based startup's high quality app is the first educational application with both comprehensive and affordable learning material for iPad users that facilitates entertaining and multi-media language learning any time, any place.
The new Babbel apps offer a great way to learn a new language quickly in the New Year-while having fun in the process. Compared to previous apps, these include not just vocabulary training, but also courses for beginners and continuing learners, grammar and refresher training, as well as classic lessons such as Idioms or Tongue-Twisters. The review manager keeps track of words that have been learned as well as the learner's progress, and synchronizes them to coincide with the web-app. Lessons and exercises are set up in a casual and playful way, using interactive touch capabilities (for example drag-and-drop exercises), thereby corresponding to Babbel's didactic methods. A customized design for the iPad, an improved speech-recognition system and intuitive navigation fulfills the tablet's claim to being an exemplary vehicle for learning.
From the desk to the sofa
The iPad is ideal for language learning. "The tablet corresponds to the playful nature of Babbel exercises and ensures that learners remain active and focused, and thus achieve rapid progress," says Miriam Pleininger, head of content production at babbel.com. This is something that many users have also recognized, and wanted to extend their learning from the desktop to the tablet.
"We see a lot of potential in mobile learning and believe that language learning should be optimized and offered on any mobile device," says Markus Witte, managing director of Babbel.com. "Our goal is to make language learning possible, independent of time or place, as well as accessible for everyone."
