App updates you don't want to miss -- February 22 edition

It has been another busy week in the App Store with a bunch of app updates landing on iOS and OS X. Grab a cup of joe and check out our list of notable updates from the past week!

iOS Apps

Reader X [iPad, Category: News, $2.99] Google Reader Client with an innovative user interface. Version 2.0 brings:

  • a new UI that has been completely rebuilt upon the original idea of presenting a "wallpaper of all your Google Reader news."

  • Reader X uses a different Google Reader authorization mechanism and a new data model as well.

Twitterrific 5 for Twitter [iOS Universal, Category: Social Networking, $2.99] Twitterrific is the award-winning, fast and elegant Twitter client that's easy to understand and a delight to use. Version 5.1 brings the following changes:

  • Muffling of users, hashtags & domains

  • Added new image services: Img.ly, Mobypicture, & Twitpic

  • Avenir font added to themes (iOS 6+ only)

Inkflow Plus [iOS Universal, Category: Business, $7.99] Inkflow works like a word-processor for visual thinking. Capture your ideas as easily as with pen and paper, then arrange and reorganize them with your fingers. Version 2.0 brings the following changes:

  • Insert text and edit with the keyboard

  • Add photos from your albums

  • Resize text and photos seamlessly with the ink

  • Paper backgrounds

  • Custom stationery for the Plus Edition.

Rock Runners [iOS Universal, Category: Games, $0.99] Take control of an energetic, running, jumping, swinging runner in this hugely entertaining action platform game.Version 1.0.3 brings the following changes:

  • Fixed crashes for some users.

Another World - 20th Anniversary [iOS Universal, Category: Games, $3.99] Another World™ has attained cult status among critics and sophisticated gamers alike for its cinematic effects in the graphics, sound and cut scenes. Version 1.3 brings the following changes:

  • iOS 6 Optimization

  • iCade Compatibility

  • New languages

Tweetbot for Twitter iPad [iPad, Category: Social Networking, $2.99] Tweetbot is a full-featured iPhone (and iPod touch) Twitter client with a lot of personality. Version 2.7.2 brings the following changes:

  • Updated to use Twitter's 1.1 API

  • Updated to meet Twitter's new UI requirements

Tweetbot for Twitter iPhone [iPhone, Category: Social Networking, $2.99] Tweetbot is a full-featured iPhone (and iPod touch) Twitter client with a lot of personality. Version 2.7.2 brings the following changes:

  • Updated to use Twitter's 1.1 API

  • Updated to meet Twitter's new UI requirements

CARROT: The Todo List with a Personality [iPhone, Category: Productivity, $0.99] CARROT, the world's first todo list with a personality, just became the first todo list that upgrades itself with new features as you use it. Version 2.0 brings the following changes:

  • Happy Pills (Unlocks at Level 2)

  • Alerts (Level 13)

  • Mini-Games (Level 15)

  • Chapter 2 of The Story (Level 22)

  • Other unlockables

Pixel Village [iPhone, Category: Games, $0.99] Build a village in the wilderness that not only can survive, but thrive. Version 1.0.1 brings the following changes:

  • Fixed some critical bugs, causing freezing up of the villagers

  • Fixed incoming text bug

  • Improved gold store loading sequence

  • Added a couple of more artifacts for you to enjoy

  • Various tweaks and optimizations.

Dcovery [iPhone, Category: Travel, $3.99] Dcovery is the best way to organize your travel research and discover more when you reach your destination. Version 1.1 brings the following changes:

  • Redesigned and simplified Add New Place process

  • Full-screen map. Copy address to clipboard, open map in Google Maps or Apple Maps

  • Bug fixes

  • Refined help coaches

  • In-app Help

  • Temperature now displayed in Fahrenheit or Celsius depending on your selected Region Format

iA Writer [iOS Universal, Category: Productivity, $0.99] iA Writer makes sure that your thought goes into the text - and not into the program. Version 1.8 brings the following changes:

  • Enhanced look and feel

  • New iCloud engine and UI

  • New accessory keyboard

  • Improved text editing

  • Improved file browser

  • Improved conflict resolution

  • Automatic encoding conversion

  • Scrolling improvements

InstaWeather Pro [iPhone, Category: Weather, $1.99] Add smart weather overlay to your photos and share on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or send with email or SMS. Version 2.1 brings the following changes:

  • faster and more responsive on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4

  • more geolocation data to choose from

  • new location menu

Finish [iPhone, Category: Productivity, $0.99] Overcome the clutches of procrastination with Finish, a busy iPhone user's best friend. Version 1.0.2 brings the following changes:

  • There's now an option in settings to start the week on Monday.

  • Smoother gestures

  • Some small interface improvements

  • Good ol' VARIOUS BUG FIXES!

Instashare [iOS Universal, Category: Productivity, Free] Transfer files the easy way, just drag & drop the file and we will handle the rest. Version 1.2 brings the following changes:

  • iPad version!

  • Landscape mode for preview

  • Crash fixes for iOS5

  • Bug fixes and performance improvements

Crux web browser [iPhone, Category: Utilities, Free] Crux is an advanced web browser, with built in file, download, and theme managers. Version 1.1.2 brings the following changes:

  • Bug fixes

  • 1Password support

  • Rewritten download manager

  • Fixed editing bookmarks

  • Fixed editing folders

  • Fixed moving bookmarks and folders

  • Fixed scrolling up when tapping the status bar

OS X Apps

TextWrangler [OS X, Category: Developer Tools, Free] TextWrangler is the leading freeware text and code editor for the Macintosh. Version 4.5 brings the following changes:

  • TextWrangler 4.5 includes significant internal and visible changes, including support for Retina displays, user interface refinements, and fixes for reported issues.

SmashTunes [OS X, Category: Music, $2.99] SmashTunes is a very nice menu bar item that lets you control iTunes as well as Spotify. It displays information about the currently playing song as well and can also display artwork.Version 2.2 brings the following changes:

  • album artist, year and composer can now be displayed as well

  • Shuffle and repeat supported for Spotify as well

  • Workaround for iTunes 11 repeat and shuffle problem

  • Fixed problem where iTunes would be restarted incidentally

Dropzone [OS X, Category: Productivity, $9.99] Dropzone makes it faster and easier to get things done on your Mac. Version 2.5 brings the following changes:

  • Fixed crash when running under OS X 10.6

Todo Pro [OS X, Category: Productivity, Free] Todo Pro is for You - finally, productivity simple enough for you, your friends, and your life. Version 2.0.4 brings the following changes:

  • Added "Intelligent Task Parsing" when creating new tasks

  • Added ability to filter "unassigned" tasks

  • Added code to schedule task alert notifications using Notification Center so they will still work when Todo is not running

  • Added ability to set default alert for new tasks

  • Many bug fixes (See http://www.appigo.com/blog for details)

ToDo [OS X, Category: Productivity, $14.99] Todo® Task Manager for Mac now offers task list sharing and other awesome features when you connect with Todo Pro, Appigo's new productivity service. Version 2.0.4 brings the following changes:

  • Added "Intelligent Task Parsing" when creating new tasks

  • Added auto* sync when obtaining a new network connection and awaking from sleep with Todo Pro and Dropbox sync services

  • Added ability to filter "unassigned" tasks

  • Added code to schedule task alert notifications using Notification Center so they will still work when Todo is not running

  • Added ability to set default alert for new tasks

  • Many bug fixes (See http://www.appigo.com/blog for details)

Feeds [OS X, Category: Productivity, $4.99] Feeds watches your favorite websites and notifies you when important things happen. Version 2.0.3 brings the following changes:

  • Fix issue where Trello feeds would display the wrong author

  • Fix Basecamp Next line-wrapping in Feeds menu

  • Includes new Growl SDK

Tweetbot for Twitter [OS X, Category: Social Networking, $19.99] Tweetbot is a full-featured Mac OS X Twitter client with a lot of personality. Version 1.2 brings the following changes:

  • New options for menubar icon and dock badge. See Notifications in Preferences.

  • Enable/disable notifications when a specific user tweets. Control*click on a user you are following and choose 'Enable/Disable Notifications' from the context menu.

  • Thumbnail support for Vine and Flickr.

  • Ability to reorder accounts in account preferences.

  • Support for adding .mp4 video to tweets.

  • Fixed issue with uploading animated gifs.

  • Can now drag .mp4 or images into app icon to create a new tweet.

  • Can now open profiles or tweets on twitter.com.

  • Clicking on the date label in the status detail will open in your browser.

  • If the username/hashtag completion popover appears and you press up arrow when there's no selection or the top item selected, the popover now goes away. Same when at the bottom.

  • Fixed the issue where 'goto user' would fail if there was a space before or after the username.

  • Fixed the issue where a twitter search url didn't work as expected in some cases.

  • Fixed the issue where if someone faved your tweet it looked like you faved it.

  • 'View in Favstar' now respects open links in background preference

  • Fixed the issue where when creating new tweet, typing something, hitting escape and then clicking somewhere would dismiss the tweet.

  • Fixed the issue with changing muted keyword durations.

  • Updated to use Twitter's 1.1 API.

  • Updated to meet some of Twitter's new UI requirements.
