The jam will be separated into two categories. The first is the "Selected Developers" competition, which will consist of 10 "hand-picked" independent developers. The "Open Call" competition is open to all comers. "Over $50,000 in prizes" is up for grabs, with the winning developers in each category taking home $10,000 each. The winners will also have their work showcased at this year's IndieCade festival, taking place October 3-6 in Los Angeles.
VR Jam begins on August 2 and ends on August 25, with milestones expected from developers on August 9 and 16. Those interested in competing can sign up on the VR Jam website.
WHO: Oculus VR and IndieCade, the International Festival of Independent Games
WHAT: On Aug 2, 2013, Oculus VR and IndieCade: The International Festival of Independent Games will launch "VR Jam", a three-week-long game jam produced by Oculus and IndieCade designed to foster creativity and ingenuity among independent game developers. Developers must create content for use with the Oculus Rift.
The game jam will consist of two categories with each category producing one winner. The "Selected Developers" category will pit up to 10 hand-picked independent game developers against each other in competition for top prizes. The "Open Call" category allows for all independent Oculus Rift developers to register and compete for top prizes.
Oculus VR and IndieCade will judge the contest. Over $50,000 in prizes will be given away, including $10,000 to the winners in each category. The winners will be flown to IndieCade, where their content will be showcased. The winners will also be invited to Oculus HQ to meet the Oculus team.
WHERE: Developers across the globe are eligible to join VR Jam, except where prohibited by law.
