WRUP: Month in review edition

Beans, beans, they're not a fruit. Not even close a fruit. Seriously, who writes that?

Hey, gang! It's August, and that means it's time to take a look back at how we did in July. Overall, Massively did pretty well, with very few people noticing that both Matt and Justin had been replaced by cybernetic kill-droids chained to chairs and forced to write. Our top articles were our two-part feature on the history of beans in video games and that livestream where the feed was accidentally replaced with an episode of Adventure Time. This August we plan to diversify our content with the addition of cooking shows, so please, stick around!

Please?

On what's presumably a related note, it's time for this week's installment of WRUP, which lists what we're playing over the next couple of days. So by all means, take a look at our plans, and let us know what you plan to get up to in the comments. And you can trust me, it's funny if you get the reference.

Bree Royce, Editor-in-Chief

@nbrianna: I'll be modding my Skyrim and Morrowind installs and being pulled into Guild Wars 2 in spite of my grumpiness!

Eliot Lefebvre, Columnist Extraordinaire and Senior Contributing Editor

@Eliot_Lefebvre: How I long to be back in Final Fantasy XIV this weekend. But it's not available, and so I'll console myself by gradually playing through the whole series for an ill-advised project. Other than that, I've finished up with Tomb Raider and might figure out the next game on my Steam list to get through.

Justin Olivetti, Columnist Extraordinaire and Senior Contributing Editor

@Sypster: I might not be gaming much this weekend as my family's coming to town, but I have recently returned to Star Wars: The Old Republic to meet up with my old guild. I think I need to brush up on my skills, however; I'm quite rusty in that game. I'm also picking up Defiance to see how that plays. Ten bucks isn't a huge loss if it ends up being a stinker. Finally, August is the 31 Days of Geocaching, so I'm trying to find a geocache in the real world each day this month (for achievements!).

Mike Foster, Contributing Editor

@MikedotFoster: I'll be playing Dota 2, as usual, and perhaps healing a few more World of Warcraft dungeons if I find time. Also, my sister and I are borrowing a PS3 for the weekend; we're going to charge through The Last of Us in two days and hope none of the emotional resonance is lost due to the pace. Or hope that it doesn't crush our souls entirely.

MJ Guthrie, Columnist Extraordinaire and Contributing Editor

@MJ_Guthrie: I'll be partaking in a marathon session of "How many panels can I attend" right here at SOE Live. Of course, that pretty much negates my personal gaming time, but I will get my hands on whatever I can here at the convention! And I plan to pass on every sweet morsel of news to you, my Massively pals.

Richie Procopio, Multimedia Contributor

@RichieProcopio: This weekend I'll be playing Guild Wars 2 and ample amounts of Cube World. I recently set up a Cube World server and rigged it so my sons and I can all play together. Now they are totally addicted to running around, aggroing skull bulls which are much too tough for us, and stealing absolutely every piece of loot that hits the ground. In other words, it's a ton of fun!

Terilynn Shull, Star Trek Online Columnist

@terilynns: This weekend I will be packing and getting all sorts of stuff ready for my trip to Las Vegas, Nevada! Why? Because next weekend I will be moderating the Star Trek Online panel at the Official Star Trek convention at the Rio Hotel and Casino!

For those who are planning to attend, the time of the panel was changed! We are now set to go on stage in the DeForest Kelley Theatre at 2:50 p.m. EDT (that's 11:50 a.m. local time for those who will be at the convention) on Saturday August 10th! The panel will be carried live on TrekRadio.net. Also, if you are in the Vegas area and would like to meet some of the STO devs from Cryptic Studios, we will be meeting at the Bar at the Rio on that same Saturday night at 8:00 EDT (5:00 p.m. local) for the Hangin' with the Devs mixer. Hope to see you there!

At the start of every weekend, we catch up with the Massively staff members and ask them, "What are you playing this week?" (Otherwise known as: WRUP!) Join us to see what we're up to in and out of game -- and catch us in the comments to let us know what you're playing, too!
