One Shots: Mount up!

Whether it's a real-world or fantasy version, we apparently can't resist showing off a sweet, sweet ride. This week's edition of One Shots is dedicated to all of your spiffy-looking mounts and the paint jobs that you had done to them while they were asleep.

The first one comes from The Lurker, who might become one with his horse in EverQuest II: "Arriving at the magical teleportation spires in the Commonlands. Stepping into the magical wortex will dissolve even a Deathknight and restructure him in a distant land. Is it really safe? If I ride into it on my horse, will we arrive as a centaur? And must I then join the Centaur Herds in the Thundering Steppes? Is that how they came to be?"

Get the picture in full Technicolor as well as several additional ones -- at no extra charge! -- all after the break.

If I actually lived in one of these fantasy realms, I'd probably be riding around on the equivalent of a seven-passenger minivan (with cupholders). Not so for reader Bill, who lives life in the fast lane!

"RIFT just released the Obsidian Ki Rin mount, and I wasted no time in finding an outfit to do justice to the black and red dragon. The Butler wardrobe is given new life," Bill writes. "I added the Snow Ki Rin too, as it's the all-white version that leaves frost in its wake as you ride."

"Back in the early days of LotRO's mount system, you could have only a single horse," reader Chris reminded us. "If you got a new one, it would replace the old. So this was my oldest mount in the game; 'Eridani,' dating from before the ability to have multiple mounts. I think this was the first early autumn festival horse. That's Mayda Enbourne, my first character and perpetual main -- a Lore-master born back in October of 2007. She's in her final adventuring outfit here, my own interpretation of a Grey Company Lore-master."

Lore-master: doing for lore what the thigh-master did for thighs.

"As an unrepentant altaholic, I've always been a firm believer that it's the journey, not the destination, that matters," Ralph the Wonder Llama said. "So when TERA had its level-up event a while back, I was left feeling rather ambivalent. Ultimately I decided a Level 58 lancer might make a useful addition to my army of alts, so I went ahead and took advantage of the offer. With shiny new character in hand, I headed straight over to Pathfinder Outpost to begin my level 58 questing. In the background you can see the mysterious spires of Raga Shadi looming over the landscape... what secrets might the towers hold? Ahh, whom am I kidding! I know exactly what secrets they hold! Only this time I'll be bashing all the evil blue critters with my shield and stabbing them with my lance! Trampling my enemy as I charge fearlessly into battle! Hmmm... this might just work out after all. The altaholic in me is pleased."

So if a wonder llama rides a horse, is that a redundancy in transportation?

Your screenshot challenge of the week is to load up a game that you haven't for some time and go on a screenshot safari. See if taking pictures might spark a little revival, and if not, at least you have fodder to send in to me!

Want to be featured in a future edition of One Shots? Send your favorite MMO screenshots to oneshots@massively.com, and don't forget to include your name, the name of the game, and a description of the scene. Large, colorful, UI-free shots that tell a story and really show off the game make for the best images. Look ma, we brought back One Shots!
