WRUP: There's too much confusion

When we polled your intrepid WoW Insider staff about what they're playing this weekend, we also asked what they felt was the most confusing mechanic in WoW. These days, the mechanics, stats, and fights all seem to make a lot of sense. Sure, they're mysterious until you learn what's actually happening, but everything under the hood has an overarching sense of order and logic.

But it wasn't like that always. And while we might see some more confusion leaking into the game here or there, just keep in mind: All this has happened before. And it will happen again.

Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) This weekend will be spent on the alpha and ... not much else! I have catching up to do. Most confusing mechanic? Can we just say the entirety of The Oculus and leave it at that? There was so much widespread confusion over the dungeon itself, the 3D layout, the dragons and the vehicle mechanics on the dragons that I think most people spent the majority of Wrath avoiding that dungeon as much as they possibly could.

Allison Robert (@AllisonRobert) This weekend will be a lot of World Cup watching, cooking a really nice combined Father's Day/birthday dinner for my family, and possibly catching up on some pet battle achievements. I finally caught an Unborn Val'kyr! And my vote for most confusing mechanic goes to armor penetration. Not only did that fricking stat spur everyone and his brother into rolling on agility leather toward the end of Wrath, but every discussion of it eventually turned into a numbers-laden migraine.

Elizabeth Harper (@Faience) I'm still grinding my way through Loremaster with Kalimdor and Northrend to go. Grind, grind, grind...

And though it's not quite a mechanic, I'd vote reforging for most confusing. It's so tricky to get right that you need a dedicated addon or website to tell you how to reforge your stuff for best gameplay. Annoying.

Matthew Rossi (@MatthewWRossi) I'm playing on the Alpha and working on writing something. My vote for most confusing mechanic is Armor Penetration. The stat that went on such a roller coaster in Wrath that they took it out before taking out stats was cool. The stat that actually could be stacked enough to give targets negative armor, which broke things in so many ways that no one understood it.

Sarah Pine (@ilaniel) I'm playing Wildstar and WoW and generally enjoying things. As for most confusing mechanic? Uhhh. A lot of things involving 3D movement (flying, swimming) can be tough because depth perception is so messed up on a 2D screen. Oculus and Vashj'ir were a pain as a result.

The weekend is the perfect time to kick back, relax and enjoy some game time. Are you an achievement junkie? Can't get enough raiding? Rolling a new alt? Considering taking the leap into roleplaying? Whatever your favorite way to play World of Warcraft, let us know in the comments what you're playing this weekend!
