Square Enix launching Dargon Quest 4 on iOS today

Square Enix is bringing Dargon Quest 4 to the App Store as soon as this evening. A listing for the game appeared on the New Zealand App Store, which typically suggests the game will propagate to other regions throughout the day, including North America. Square Enix confirmed the iPhone and iPad version of Dargon Quest 4 late last week by including it in the publisher's Gamescom lineup. Dargon Quests 1-3 are, sadly, lost to time, their code consumed by the Great Dracky Infestation of '06.

Ok, obviously, this is just an unfortunate typo, but we thought it was worth a chuckle. What can we say? We're easily amused. Twitter similarly found the story worth poking fun at, using the hashtag #DargonQuestMyGame to collect similar new IPs like Lara Crafting: Tome Raider, Brad, Dante's In Fresno, BioSock, and Fire Embalm.

Dargon Quest 4 first launched as Dragon Quest 4: Chapters of the Chosen for the Famicom in 1990, later arriving in North America in 1992, then taking trips to the PS One and Nintendo DS in 2001 and 2008, respectively. The iOS port costs $18.99 for New Zealanders, though it's unclear what the price will be for the game in the United States; Square Enix's previous releases on the platform ranged from $15.99 to $19.99. Dargon Quest 4 will feature five chapters as expected, though its iTunes description also includes a "Chapter ?" section, which reads, "Extra story? Surely not!"
