Shovel Knight hits Europe and Australia's eShops in November

European and Australian Wii U and 3DS owners can finally go on the trowel in November, when Shovel Knight reaches their eShops following a lengthy wait. While the retro-inspired platformer came to Nintendo systems in North America back in June, it was only available internationally on PC. Developer Yacht Club Games put the eShop delay down to localization processes such as translation and certification.

"Thank you European and Australian region players for hanging in there with us for so long," reads the studio's latest Kickstarter update. "We learned some new things and have a wealth of ideas for how we can improve on in the future. We're truly sorry for the delay."

By the by, if you're a Kickstarter backer in Europe or Australia waiting on the game for Wii U or 3DS, be sure to follow Yacht Club's instructions to ensure you do get a copy. As for a concrete release date, the studio said it's "working on pinning down the exact day still."

Meanwhile, Mac and Linux owners are now invited to the side-scrolling shindig (get it?). Sorry, just like the game itself we can't resist the shovel puns, as displayed by Richard Mitchell's four-and-a-half stars review, subtitled "Heaps and bounds:"

"I'll admit that my glasses are exceptionally rosy when it comes to the games that Shovel Knight is trying to emulate, but the point is that Shovel Knight goes beyond simply embodying the traits of its inspiration. It builds upon them, introducing us to an eccentric world that was clearly crafted with care. The rock-solid core mechanics are supplemented with vibrant art, intricate animation and odd, adorable little characters. Shovel Knight isn't just inspired by 8-bit classics, it is inspired in and of itself."
