The Queue: A wild trademark appears! It's super effective!

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) will be your host today.

Let's just cover this here, because I think this constant monitoring of the trademark databases is kinda silly.

Luminous asked:

New Blizzard Trademark registered : "Eye Of Azshara". A new Hearthstone expansion? The next WoW expansion? Blizzard releasing a shooter -- "Call of Duty : Eye Of Azshara"?

For those that haven't heard, a trademark appeared in the government databases for "Eye of Azshara." There's a lot of speculation around this, but here's the thing... we've been through this game before. Remember when The Dark Below was supposed to be the next WoW expansion? How well did that turn out? There's also been plenty of false trademarks filed under Blizzard's name too. People really think it's fun to troll like this, and all it does is cause endless speculation and drama.

Do I think it's legit? I don't know. There's been nothing to suggest this is the next expansion for WoW or Hearthstone. We'll know for sure in a few days.

PaulTHopper asked:

Wonder why this expansion is hitting on a Thursday instead of Tuesday. Didn't all the previous ones hit on Tuesdays?

There's some talk that it's because of Armistice Day, which happens on Tuesday. But I think the real reason is that it's so close to the end of BlizzCon that it's a little impractical to launch an expansion then.

BlizzCon is ran by Blizzard -- they really have just about every employee from their Irvine offices at the event. Working lines, taking tickets, handing out goodie bags, etc... They've gotten help in recent years, and I'm sure they're getting more outside contractors this year, but it's still an absolutely massive investment from the folks at Blizzard. They need a few days rest before the expansion launches.

Rufus asked:

So when does the expansion download onto our computers - those of us who preordered digitally?

If you can log into the game right now, then the expansion is already on your computer. Blizzard rolls out expansions by bundling all the assets with the major version patch (in this case 6.0). This way there's a good month to download gigs of data, and the download servers are not overloaded on the night the expansion releases.

That being said, there's always the possibility of a small patch on Expansion Eve (this is what we're calling it now, it's a thing, deal with it).
