Double-cannon Samus Amiibo fetches $2,500 on eBay

A defective Samus Amiibo proved this week that double the firepower can translate into many more multiples the cash. After discovering the potentially one-of-its-kind figure with two arm cannons rather than the regular one, a lucky Best Buy customer turned his $13 purchase into a $2,500 golden ticket on eBay.

Nintendo's Amiibo range launched last month, providing Wii U users with Skylanders-like toys that are compatible with games including Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart 8. As GameSpot reports, Adam Truesdale was one of many customers who bought the Samus Amiibo, and he was all ready to rip into the case until a friend pointed out the defect.

After selling the rare figurine for almost 200 times what he bought it for, Truesdale told GameSpot the thought never crossed his mind to keep it.

"However, if approached by Nintendo, I probably would have [donated it]," he said. "I was considering hanging on to it to sell at a later date if the value did increase. However, with the high level of interest shown at the time when I posted it, I thought I'd go ahead and sell it now in case the value went down or a whole tub of them was discovered at a later date."

19 eBay bidders fought over the super-powered Samus for a week, helping the bidding rise from an initial $50 to $2,500. No surprises, but Truesdale's very happy after his prime case of Christmas come early.

Talking of Prime, in case you think there's some Corruption going on: GameSpot said it's seen additional photos and a receipt, adding that the figurine does appear to be authentic. In other words, keep a close eye on those Amiibo shelves over the holidays.
