Theatrhythm Dragon Quest announced

When Square Enix mused about Theatrhythm crossing to properties other than Final Fantasy, we all knew where that train of thought was headed. Sure enough, Theatrhythm Dragon Quest is now officially a thing, and it's coming to 3DS in Japan on March 26, 2015.

Details are sparse for now and there's no confirmation of a Western release, though both Theatrhythm Final Fantasy games have made their way to our shores. Square Enix is set to share more on the game at the Jump Festa event later this month, including a debut trailer.

For those not in the know, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy combines the series' characters and songs with tap-based rhythm games. Those rhythm games play out in a few different ways, including JRPG battles with an array of Final Fantasy monsters.

One of the hooks is the underying perfusion of RPG mechanics, letting you level up your heroes to obtain stronger magic and skills. Another is that you can do fun stuff like fight Sephiroth to tune of "One Winged Angel" with a party composed entirely of characters from the FF13 saga. You know, if you want.

We've sunk plenty of hours into Theatrhythm here at Joystiq, and that includes this year's content-stuffed follow-up, Curtain Call. In his glowing review, Danny 'Onion Knight' Cowan said Curtain Call "outclasses its predecessor to such an extreme degree that it makes the original Theatrhythm obsolete."
