Blackguards makes its PC, Mac debut ahead of schedule

Despite the game's original January 24 release date, Daedalic Entertainment has opted to release turn-based roleplaying epic Blackguards a bit early.

Described as "a turn-based RPG with strategic combat," Blackguards initially sounds like a typical high-fantasy roleplaying game, with one big twist: Instead of teaming with noble warriors of virtue on a holy quest to slay the minions of evil, you play as a convicted murder who joins forces with other criminals. According to Daedalic, "their good deeds are neither acts of kindness nor heroism, but according to their roguish nature rather a result of their attempts to save their own hides."

Visit Steam or GOG and you'll find Blackguards available for purchase in both PC and Mac iterations. Steam is currently offering two versions of Blackguards - a Standard Edition at $36 and a Deluxe Edition at $54 - while GOG solely features the Blackguards: Special Edition for $43.40. Each version of the game includes its own bonus materials, so read the descriptions carefully before you check out. Alternately, if you've already purchased the game's Early Access incarnation on Steam, you'll soon see your game update itself to its final, retail version.

Leading up to the release, Blackguards proved that, with their first venture into the RPG genre, Daedalic Entertainment once again have created a gripping gaming experience.
Gamespot were keen to highlight the detail of the 180+ individually designed battlemaps: "You see it most in the heavy focus on interaction with environmental objects scattered throughout the hexagonal grids, and in its best moments, Blackguards uses them to craft more rewarding battles than we recently saw in The Banner Saga."

Blackguards' is now available for PC and Mac on Steam and GOG. The Standard Edition on Steam will be available for US$39.99 and the Blackguards Deluxe Edition for US$ 59.99. The Special Edition on GOG is available for US$ 44.99.

About Blackguards
Blackguards is probably one of the bleakest stories ever told in the universe of 'The Dark Eye':
What if the only remaining hope of a world is not a company of virtuous heroes, but instead a bunch of outcasts and criminals?
Blackguards will answer this very question. The player takes on the role of a convicted murderer, accompanied by a group of no less dubious characters.
They may spare the world its grim fate, but their good deeds are neither acts of kindness nor heroism, but according to their roguish nature rather a result of their attempts to save their own hides.

Staying alive is a feat of its own, since not only the long arm of the law wants their heads, but there are also other, mysterious powers with much more sinister intentions on their trail. As if all this wasn't enough, Aventuria's south is crawling with dangerous beasts and monsters...

Blackguards is a turn-based RPG with strategic combat and combines the studio's high standards of storytelling and unique characters with thrilling action and an elaborate 3D environment.
Challenging quests lead the player through a dark story of doubt, treachery and loss.
