Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams shifts one million copies

Indie developer Black Forest Games announced that its Commodore 64-era revival project Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams has crested one million sales units across all available platforms.

Funded by a successful Kickstarter project, Twisted Dreams is a dimension-shifting platformer that launched in 2012 for Windows, with ports for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U arriving last year. Black Forest's recent sales milestone comes in the wake of Twisted Dreams' recent appearance in Humble Indie Bundle 11, where it accompanied standout indie hits like Guacamelee, Monaco, and Dust: An Elysian Tail.

Black Forest continued to update the Windows version of Twisted Dreams with new content in the years following its initial release, including holiday-themed Christmas and Halloween levels.

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams Sells Over 1 Million Copies

Crowd-financed Indie Game by Black Forest Games Reaches New Milestone

Offenburg, 14th March 2014 – German Indie Games Developer Black Forest Games is pleased to announce that it has sold more than a million copies of the award-winning multi-platform game GIANA SISTERS: TWISTED DREAMS, which can now be counted as one of the big success stories in the crowd-funded gaming market. What began as a modest Kickstarter campaign has become a million seller: The great potential of the game became clear during the crowd-funding campaign in 2012 when the pledge goal of $150.000 USD was surpassed within short time. The Windows version of Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams was published on Steam and Gog.com only a few months after the campaign ended. It was followed by the release for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and WiiU in 2013.

The modern remake of the 80s classic Giana Sisters sends players into an entertaining jump'n'run adventure. The main mission is to rescue Giana's sister, Maria, from a mighty dragon that is holding her captive in a dream world. The special charm of the game lies in the smart game mechanics that lets players switch from the real world to the dream world solving puzzles.

"One million copies sold," says Andreas Speer, Managing Director of Black Forest Games, "that absolutely qualifies Giana Sisters as an indie hit – and yet it took a Kickstarter campaign to be able to develop the game. It wouldn't have been possible in the classic way through publisher financing. It is only thanks to the dedication of our 6000 backers that one million gamers (and counting) got the chance to play 'Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams'."

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams and the stand-alone add-on Rise of the Owlverlord have been awarded with several prizes, for example:

German Developer Award "Best Youth Game 2013" (GS:TD Rise of the Owlverlord)
Casual Connect Indieprize Showcase Award "Best Audio 2013"
German Children Software Award Tommi "Best Computer Game 2013"
German Developer Award "Best Sound 2012"
Demonews Game of the Year Award "Best Jump'n'Run and Puzzle Game 2012"

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams is also nominated in three categories at this year's European Games Award: Best Art Direction, Sound und Game Design.
