Tim Cook calls Yukari Kane's new Apple book "nonsense"
In case you missed it, I recently posted a not-so-nice review of Yukari Iwatani Kane's new book about Apple. Titled Haunted Empire: Apple After Steve Jobs, the book characterizes Apple as a company on the decline as it struggles to recapture the innovative spirit it allegedly lost when Steve Jobs passed away.
Point blank, I found the book to be one of the lesser books ever written about the company, primarily due to the overwhelming number of misleading claims and conclusions Kane subtly tries to present as fact. For example, even Apple's nearly $1 billion legal judgement against Samsung is spun as a negative.
In any event, the book went on sale today and has largely garnered negative to lukewarm reviews. As it turns out, Tim Cook also isn't a fan, going so far as to issue a statement about the new book to CNBC.
This nonsense belongs with some of the other books I've read about Apple. It fails to capture Apple, Steve, or anyone else in the company. Apple has over 85,000 employees that come to work each day to do their best work, to create the world's best products, to put their mark in the universe and leave it better than they found it. This has been the heart of Apple from day one and will remain at the heart for decades to come. I am very confident about our future.
Re/Code adds that the email also included this tidbit from Cook: "We've always had many doubters in our history. They only make us stronger."
Nice to see Tim Cook getting amped up.
