Apple covered a lot of ground during its iOS 8 launch
, but it glossed over a big, big deal for some iPhone owners: WiFi calling support. When the upgrade is available in the fall, subscribers on T-Mobile
and other supporting networks can use WiFi hotspots for phone conversations instead of worrying about cellular reception or roaming fees. The feature is arguably overdue when Android and Windows Phone have supported it for a while, but it's a welcome addition for iOS fans who'd rather not switch platforms (or rely solely on voice over IP apps like Skype) just to get a better calling experience.
