Destiny's alpha is a survivor, still playable for now

The Destiny alpha is ongoing past its scheduled close time, and Bungie seems prepared to run the first-look program a little longer. The alpha was due to end at 12AM PT/3AM ET this morning, but at the time of writing we confirmed it remains playable and active.

Earlier today, Bungie tweeted, "There's a rumor that the Destiny alpha might be extended to allow dangerous experiments. Play beyond the official close at your own risk!"

If you enjoyed touring King's Watch with Tyrion Lannister this weekend, there's a Glimmer of hope you can do it for a while longer. As for how much longer, who knows?

In any case, Bungie's promising a more content-stuffed beta for PS4 and PS3 starting July 17 - a beta is due later on Xbox systems too - while the "shared-world" first-person shooter hits the two PlayStations, Xbox One and Xbox 360 in full on September 9.

The fate of Destiny on PC remains in the balance, with Activision's Eric Hirshberg telling Polygon "it's something that's a heavy point of discussion" for the publisher.
