WRUP: The news is finally happening

fireworks in azshara

There's been a surprising amount of news this week. It's like warlords from some not-quite-time-travel location are finally catching up to us. Whether we're talking about the night time being dark or just kind of dim, or exciting new fiery corgis, it feels like things are finally happening.

So when we asked What R U Playing this weekend, we also asked: what's been your favorite bit of news? What's on your mind about recent events? Also, most importantly, is the Corgi the best pet ever, or just the best pet available?

Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) I'm probably not going to be playing much of anything this weekend -- I might hop on the beta, but I think most of the weekend is just going to be spent hanging with the family. Holiday and all that! Best bit of news this week -- honestly I was really, really excited about the corgi pet because it's incredibly cute and all, but I'm a little more excited for proper night time in Azeroth. Which may sound kind of dumb, but I like the contrast between night and day. There hasn't really been that kind of contrast in a long, long time. So why not, while they're updating models and making the game a little more fresh, make the dark a little darker, too?

Allison Robert (@AllisonRobert) I'm continuing with pet battle achievements and farming for Skyshards. I finally have eight now after a long series of trying-and-giving-up-and-then-trying-again that's spanned the entire length of Mists. If Blizzard is really serious about cutting down on bag space issues, I think it's stuff like this that merits a look -- one-off "currencies" or profession materials that are dropped so infrequently that you're basically required to have a slot for it the moment a single one drops. Ugh. With respect to important news, I don't think anything's going to top Rob Pardo's announcement that he's leaving, but that does not feel like "favorite" news. I think the current furor over Heroic Strike and WoD's design philosophy is the best window into class changes right now.

Elizabeth Harper (@Faience) If I get on at all, I'll probably be continuing to work through Loremaster. I just have a handful of Kalimdor and Northrend zones left, but with all Northrend zones being huge, that's going to take some time. I've started working on pet achievements as I go, because why not? I still don't have a single level 25 pet because I've mostly ignored these achievements so far, but I'm getting closer. Onward!

Top news is definitely that corgi. Most important news, however, is Pardo leaving ... though it's hard to say what's going to happen next, with him gone.

Elizabeth Wachowski (@leeatwaterlives) I've got a lot of things I'm playing. Curse you, Steam! I've got Fallout on the brain, both 3 and New Vegas; I just started The Wolf Among Us and Torchlight II; and I see myself falling back into the glorious time-sinks of Borderlands 2 and the Mass Effect trilogy.

Like others, I am a fan of the bag space changes.

Matthew Rossi (@MatthewWRossi) It's 3 am and something like one hundred lightning strikes just went off in Edmonton, so I'm awake and running around the beta preparing for my house to be washed away in a flood. Or something.

I thought the announcement about arms and fury abilities was interesting. Because, you know, warrior.

The weekend is the perfect time to kick back, relax and enjoy some game time. Are you an achievement junkie? Can't get enough raiding? Rolling a new alt? Considering taking the leap into roleplaying? Whatever your favorite way to play World of Warcraft, let us know in the comments what you're playing this weekend!
