WRUP: Just a beta

wowwww
Welcome back to Massively's What Are You Playing, the game in which we tell you what we're playing this weekend and you tell us how gaming journalists who are paid to preview games should handwave worrying fundamental problems in a major pre-launch MMO because, you know, it's just a beta. After all, you definitely don't want to hear about games before they launch, unless it's an opinion that perfectly mirrors your preferred reality, which is why you don't patronize MMO websites. Right? Right.

@ceruleangrey: I'll be taking screenshots of my characters in Guild Wars 2's new zone because there are a lot of shiny lights in the recently opened area and I'm a sucker for shiny lights. I'll also be testing out my brand-new graphics card in WildStar and Final Fantasy XIV, and exulting over how well they run now. I'd probably be a lot happier about that if it had been a "fun" purchase and not a "Hmm, my old card is either dying or possessed" purchase.

@nbrianna/blog: I'm behind in Guild Wars 2, but that's my goal: to dig into more of the new stuff in GW2. I love that this round of the living story will wait for my schedule, especially after the crazy summer I am having. The games are piling up around me!

@Eliot_Lefebvre/blog: Having finished up the bulk of story quests and the like in Final Fantasy XIV's 2.3 quests, I'll be roleplaying, leveling an alt, and generally making gil. Possibly doing a hunt run or two, although it's so broken and unfun at the moment that it's not high on my priority list. (It's FATE spamming mark 3!) I'm also going to work on getting my third character in WildStar a house to call her own and playing some Nier for a personal site piece. And probably crafting a little in Star Trek Online.

Jef Reahard, Managing Editor
@jefreahard: I rage-quit The Secret World earlier this week, so that leaves me with a couple of Star Wars: The Old Republic class stories and Lord of the Rings Online's Gondor stuff while I wait impatiently on an ArcheAge release date. And no, I don't care about the beta unless there are no character wipes. What's that? There are? OK, still don't care, then.

@Sypster/blog: There is so much new stuff to play right now that I'm going a little bonkers trying to keep up with it all! There's the second episode in Guild Wars 2's new season that's getting a lot of positive acclaim, the recently released Update 14 in Lord of the Rings Online, the sidestories missions pack in The Secret World, and lots more to do in WildStar besides. So yeah, I think I'll be busy.

Larry Everett, Columnist
@Shaddoe/blog: This weekend, I'm trying to get some RP things rolling in Star Wars: The Old Republic to try to bolster that community a bit and get people to do more things together. Look for some bartending on the Imperial Fleet on Friday! However, next week, the Gree event comes back, and I will be working on achievements. As the recent Galactic Strongholds livestreams said, you gain decoration pieces based off achievements, and I want as much as I can get.

MJ Guthrie, Contributing Editor
@MJ_Guthrie/blog: With all those double XPs and anniversary events out of the way, I am free to pop over to the ArcheAge beta for Choose My Adventure adventures! I can also start strolling through more of the story quests for my Star Wars: The Old Republic Jedi. Other than that, I'll be doing something new on my claims in Landmark! I'll miss the maze, but I am really excited for this next idea. Oh, and wandering forlornly though Vanguard a bit, too.

Shawn Schuster, Contributing Editor
@Epykbeard/blog: I'm still enjoying myself in WildStar and plan to concentrate on getting my Esper to level 15 for a mount. The double XP weekend in PlanetSide 2 will take over a good chunk of my play time as well.

At the start of every weekend, we catch up with the Massively staff members and ask them, "What are you playing this week?" (Otherwise known as: WRUP!) Join us to see what we're up to in and out of game -- and catch us in the comments to let us know what you're playing, too!
