Previously described here as "a less militant Age of Empires as written by H.P. Lovecraft," Clockwork Empires asks players to rule over a growing group of colonists in a world as rife with overly complicated brass machinery as it is with squamous, unknowable horrors that exist only in shadow. Developer Gaslamp Games claims each citizen will have his or her own motivations, personalities and potentially dangerous secrets that will only complicate the task of ruling your superficially sleepy hamlet.
When Clockwork Empires makes its Early Access debut on August 15 it will feature a $30 price tag. If you'd rather not wait for Valve's digital distribution service, you can grab the latest build of Clockwork Empires by visiting the game's website.
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA Gaslamp Games, makers of the critically acclaimed Dungeons of Dredmor, are pleased to announce that their incredibly strange and wonderful catastrophe simulator Clockwork Empires will be arriving on Steam Early Access, via zeppelin, on August 15th for $29.99.
Packed with the Most Wonderous Advancements in Sciences and Explorations, Clockwork Empires transports players into an alternate bygone dystopia where players are tasked with managing an ever-growing (and ultimately doomed) Steampunk-laden colony, filled with diverse and sometimes secretive colonists whose ambitions, greed and foppishness know no bounds.
Clockwork Empires debuted to rave previews last spring with critics praising its ambitious and clever gameplay design. Junior Bureaucrats (Colonial Grade) looking to achieve greatness in Earliest Access are able to purchase directly from Gaslamp Games today (http://www.clockworkempires.com/). Seek out fame and promotion, build magnificent factories and Delightful Structures, scientific laboratories, lavishly decorated houses, farms, pubs and more all in the name of the Empire. But be careful - every character in your society has their own personality, motivation, and (sometimes deadly) secrets.
Clockwork Empires encourages players to link together the mighty gears of ominous colonial megaprojects either via singleplayer, a multiplayer mode with up to four players, or via a 'round robin' successive multiplayer saved-game file option. The Early Access version of the game will be updated monthly so that players who jump in early can play through various iterations of the game in development and assist in guiding the hand of the Empire to what works and what gets marked for Frontier Justice.
