With Disney Movies Anywhere app, you can buy on iTunes and watch on Android
As it turns out, Apple and Google can actually work together in the interest of enhancing the customer experience. Who knew?
As relayed by the Wall Street Journal today, Apple and Google recently inked a deal whereby users who purchase a Disney movie via iTunes can also view it on Android devices, and vice versa. Of course, for this type of cross platform collaboration to work, users have to download movies via a Disney app that can "talk" to both iTunes and the Google pay Store.
In an unprecedented agreement to share rights to digital content, the two tech giants will allow consumers who buy a Disney movie from either of their online stores to watch it on smartphones, tablets and other digital devices that run their rival's operating system.
Starting Tuesday people who register with the Disney Movies Anywhere app and buy a copy of "Frozen" from the Google Play store on an Android tablet, for instance, can later watch the film on an Apple TV through their iTunes library.
The Disney Movies Anywhere app originally launched back in February of 2014 and it's nice to see the app support cross-platform collaboration in the uber competitive world of mobile technology. Of course, noticeably absent from the mix is Windows Phone. To that end, Disney CTO Jamie Voris recently told The Verge that the company hopes to get other partners on board in the future.
