Criteria Comments Rating
  • Reception and call quality Assuming it's cased, improved call quality over iPhone 3/3GS. Data throughput in marginal areas also improved, but not enough to call it even 'decent' poor
  • Display Maybe it is because I have perspective of other recent phones but 'Retina display' not mind-blowing. Still, a superior display on a phone of this form factor great!
  • Battery life Typical low-impact smartphone use without much multitasking yields perfectly usable life. Not great, not terrible so-so
  • Camera No comments
  • Ease of use It's an iPhone. Ease of use, aided by the generally snappy response, is a key selling point, and it delivers great!
  • Design and form factor I still think it has taken on derivative Japanese/Korean design cues and doesn't look as unique as previous models did. It is smarter at a glace though good
  • Portability (size / weight) The iPhone remains the benchmark in terms of pocketability - but since it *needs* casing to stand up to use and for reception, this is a debatable merit point good
  • Media support Supports all mobile standards which really matter on the web - but beyond that, nada. Application media integration is however high good
  • Durability Compared to e.g. Nokia equivalents, iPhone will be much less likely to survive a drop unscathed. Glass used for heft, but formulation not particularly durable poor
  • Ecosystem (apps, accessories, etc.) The iPhone ecosystem has no equals. Naturally, top marks. great!
