Apple's older iPod touch, which is still available and supported, is a great choice for watching movies, listening to music, and playing games. It's very thin and light, and with Wi-Fi, you can stream content anywhere you have an internet connection. The screen and camera aren't quite as great as what you'll get on the latest model, but with the 16GB version available for just $199, it's a good deal, especially if you're looking for an alternative to the iPhone for your on-the-go media needs. (If you're ready to upgrade to a 32GB model, however, get the newer model, since it's just $50 more than the 4th-gen's $249 price tag.)

What it is, however, is a product without a peer; a media player that does far more than media playing. Besides the smaller screen real estate, the touch might be better compared to a tablet or netbook -- it has many of the same functions (more, in some cases).

Despite the hefty price, the iPod touch is still, by far, the best portable media player you can buy—and it retains our Editors' Choice.

Whatever label you put on it, the iPod Touch is a great value at $199. It's a fantastic music player, a killer mobile gaming platform, and one of the best pocket-size distractions money can buy.

The iPod touch is wildly popular for good reason. It’s an extremely versatile device—media player; pocket gaming machine; productivity tool; Internet communication device; and, with this latest update, pocket camcorder, still camera, handheld recorder, and FaceTime video phone.

Touch is the standout among the trio of new iPods. ... Moreover, there's a sweet high-resolution 3.5-inch Retina display that nearly matches the screen on the iPhone 4.

With the 4th generation mode, the touch has widened its lead over the competition. If you’ve already got a mobile phone, or don’t want to pay the iPhone’s monthly fees, there’s no better option for pocket-sized mobile entertainment than the 4th generation iPod touch.

The iPod touch is a slick looking device, but the first thing I noticed is how uncomfortable it is to hold, and almost awkward placement of the buttons on its sides. It has the requisite rounded edges, but it’s also strangely angular, and feels like it's going to just slide right out...

I've only recently upgraded to a fourth gen touch from the 2nd gen (8GB) model and it's been a great upgrade. Going from the 2nd Gen's hardware to the A4 Processor, GPU upgrade and retina display was immediately apparent. iOS4 is smooth, browsing far faster and games look and play better (if...

Doesn't hold up to iOS 5. For some reason (I don't know if this was Apple's intention to get you to buy more products from them) the iPod Touch isn't nearly as fast as it was on iOS 4.x. Now, usually, the "Slide to Unlock" screen has multiple freezes and even the music app has some trouble...

Sound quality is pretty decent, obviously not as good as high end smartphones. Good screen, very accurate colors and bright. But is very small, which makes it easier to hold and use with one hand, but harder to type, use web, watch videos. Small size, so easy to hold and use with one hand, but...
