What are some of your favorite tech podcasts?
details
I've been looking for something new to listen to lately, and I realized I've fallen out of listening to any tech podcasts on a regular basis. Does anyone have any good ones to recommend? So far I listen to Tom Merritt's Daily Tech News Show about once a week or less, and that's just about it. I used to be a TWiT listener, but that got stale.
I mainly listen to shows on my iPod Touch while heading to work, but I do occasionally listen at work as well, and I can watch a video show or two...

Call it the Surface Player: Why Microsoft needs an iPod touch competitor
details
Maybe I'm only saying this because the Zune HD never got the love it deserved, but Microsoft should come out with a Windows Phone-based competitor to the iPod touch (i.e. a smartphone without the phone part). Why? Because it would help establish Windows Phone as a viable platform. Challenging the iPod touch isn't going to tip the balance for Microsoft all on its own, but having one could make things a little easier (and it probably would not upset Microsoft's OEM partners as much as doing a... How do you feel about Apple possibly abandoning the 30-pin dock connector?
details
Today's Apple rumor is that they're going to be abandoning the 30-pin dock connector that's been on iPods, iPhones, and iPads for years now, in favor of a smaller connector.
Personally I think it certainly makes sense, though I'm sure there will be a few people who are upset or frustrated that the accessories they've invested in might not work (though presumably there would be some kind of an adapter). Those ports have stayed the same size -- while iPods and iPhones have gotten smaller -- and at... Read more →

Did iMessage usher in the beginning of true synergy??
details
Earlier this week Apple announced the arrival of their new OSX build called Mountain Lion. One of their heralded new features was the introduction of iMessage to the desktop platform with the idea being simple: 1 conversation continued across any of Apple's hardware be it iPod touch, iPad, or iPhone, with iMessage you will never stop the conversation.
I myself downloaded the beta of iMessage and tested this out first hand, I had my iPad, iPhone, and MacBook Pro in front of me as I carried on in... Read more →

Do you think individuals should be allowed to Root/Jailbreak?
details
The US Copyright Office in 2010, stated Jailbreaking iOS devices is legal. Now this exemption is running out. I would like to hear what you think about rooting or jailbreaking. I'm doing some research of my own and want any information, whether you oppose Jailbreaking/Rooting or you're in favor, I want to know. Please be as detailed as possible when replying, so that your comment is not misconstrued.

Receiving iMessages on multiple devices
details
So we had a question (http://gdgt.com/question/imessage-how-to-properly... about this a while ago but I just found some new information. gdgt won't let me answer a question multiple times so I made a new discussion thread for it.
First, make sure that on your iPhone you can receive messages at both your phone number AND your email address.
Now, if you go to Settings -> Messages -> Receive At -> Caller ID, you can set your Caller ID... Read more →

What are the issues that bother you the most regarding iOS 5? (we'll try getting Apple to fix them!)
details
So iOS 5 is out. Personally I like it a lot. Seems to me that this is also the general sentiment (aside of some initial traffic overload problems).
Anyway, there's no denial that iOS 5 still has some rather serious issues in it.
Personally, the one that bothers me the most is the iMessage issue (http://gdgt.com/question/imessage-how-to-properly... iMessages that are directed to your cell number, only arrive at your iPhone and not your... Read more →

Apple replaced my iPod Touch 4
details
Unfortunately my partner dropped his iPod Touch 4. Fell flat, face down from shirt pocket onto concrete. It still worked but the screen didn't survive the fall. I took it to Los Gatos Apple Store to a Genus. The genus, without any hesitation, in a one time gesture of good will, replaced the unit! I have read and hear many stories like this. Not all have this outcome and I don't quite know what the criterion is. I was ready to talk about my history of purchases with Apple but I didn't even need...

Apple restricting giveaways of their products
details
CNN is reporting that Apple is starting to enforce its "Guidelines for Third Party Promotions," which state how companies are allowed to conduct promotions such as free giveaways. Some of these "guidelines" include: * iPad, iPhone and the iPhone Gift Card may not be used in third-party promotions. * The use of "free" as a modifier in any Apple product reference in a prominent manner (headlines, callouts, etc.) is prohibited. * You must submit all marketing materials related to the promotion of... A vast quality improvement on the 2G Touch.
details
I had two, both of which suffered hardware problems that made the device unusable (hangs, overheating, malfunctioning headphone jack/internal speaker). By contrast, the Touch 4G has been a rock-solid performer. I use it mostly for listening to audio (podcasts, audiobooks). I use the camera which works pretty well - not as good as the iPhone 4, but better in many ways than the 5MP camera on the original Motorola Droid: it's much faster, and there's less noise in the pictures. The screen... Read more →

#wp7 #zune Boxing up iOS devices for disposal...!
details
Never thought this day would come, and nor in the last few years did I think there would be any chance of doing so, because no other PMP maker seemed to hold playcounts / track-state syncing in any particular regard. After Microsoft decided it was important too, for a long time I was staring from across the Atlantic at the potential of Zune. And now it's fully here, I gave Windows Phone 7 with Zune a spin and have decided it's sufficiently worthwhile to dive fully into it - so have... Read more →
