Criteria Comments Rating
  • Speed and features Seems to solve the sluggishness issues the first version of the 13in rMBP had...no lag issues noticed, and I'm coming from the 15in rMBP. great!
  • Design and form factor No comments great!
  • Battery life Honestly haven't been able to test this yet, but don't see any reason why it wouldn't go at least 7-8 hours on a charge. great!
  • Display No ghosting issues, at least on mine (had one on my 15in rMBP, but it didn't bother me). great!
  • Durability Remains to be seen, but I'm ordering a cover for the top/bottom. Although the unibody is rigid, seems like it will scratch easy. good
  • Expandability No plans to expand...just waiting for Apple to update the TB display. Rating as good because you can't expand anything internally once purchased. good
  • Noise Virtually silent. The i7 version may heat up more and cause the fans to spin up, but the i5 version is very quiet. great!
  • Portability (size / weight) The main reason I switched...like the size better than the 15. great!
Detailed review
I've owned the 15in rMBP since February when they were speed bumped. I have since decided I needed more portability, but I was waiting for the Haswell update for better battery life, better integrated graphics, and 802.11ac chipset. Overall this is a great little machine, and I expect to get some mileage out of it.

Pretty much in the same situation as you, coming from last year's 15 inch rMBP as well, i love the extra portability and i love the extra battery life of the 13, the only thing that i am worried about is performance, how are OSX animations? Any noticeable lag? Can you scroll without too much stuttering?

Mine should get delivered tuesday!

I haven't noticed any stuttering. I do have an issue, documented on Apple's boards and elsewhere, regarding the trackpad & keyboard becoming unresponsive all of sudden. Only fix is to reboot or close lid and sleep for about a minute. It happens with some regularity (once per day?), but rebooting is so quick on this machine its not a huge issue; Apple has said it is software and they're working on a fix.

Performance has been fantastic overall - the disk I/O on the Blackmagic Disk Test is over 700+ Mb/sec reads and writes...fast enough to handle 4k video no problem(which I don't plan to do, but still...)
