While the 400D is unquestionably a very good camera, with superb performance, an excellent control system and wide range of picture control options, ... it doesn’t really stand out in comparison to any of the other entry-level 10MP DSLRs that are currently available. quote

Digital Photography Review Oct 1, 2006

Thanks to its blood line and low price the EOS 400D will no doubt be a huge success for Canon. However unlike the EOS 350D, for me it's no longer the first or obvious choice, so before jumping on the bandwagon make sure you've weighed up the competition.

Plenty of users will enjoy the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi. In automatic modes, it's easy to use, and snapshooters will be pleased with its quality. ... Unfortunately, it doesn't feel as though the XTi is built for the long haul.

For an entry-level-priced Digital SLR, the Canon EOS Rebel XTi / 400D has more features than most entry-level-priced Digital SLR buyers will ever use - and has performance and image quality to satisfy many professional needs. Overall, I'm pleased with this DSLR.

There is no doubt that this camera will sell by the bucket-loads and any consumer wanting to take their first step into DSLR ownership won't go far wrong with this DSLR, but while the 400D offers a good all round performance, it is no longer top of the class.

I got this camera for Christmas 2009, from a good friend of the family who took great care of it and sold at a discounted price. I like to consider myself a "techie", usually able to figure something out just after playing with it for awhile... This camera broke me. I never knew there...

I owned this camera for two years, and it has toured the world with me. With an EF-S 17-85 lens this camera is exactly in the comfort zone between compact enough to pack in any bag, heavy enough to be a stable camera platform, while still being advanced enough to produce superior images. The...

I've had the camera for a few years now and it's a great reliable camera and came in at a great price point for an entry level DSLR. If you've only ever had a point and shoot, you'll really appreciate the added functionality of this camera. However, since it's now a few...

Our go-to camera for all of the kids activities, trips & special occasions. The only thing I don't like about it, is the rubber eye piece ... always falling off to the point that it's now lost. Otherwise, really great camera. All controls really easy to use and very intuitive. No video...
