LaCie wants to push the speed of Thunderbolt connections even further, so it's put a PCIE SSD inside of an external enclosure, giving the Little Big Disk Thunderbolt 2 blistering fast speeds in a sleek desktop package.
PCIe offers up faster speeds than your traditional hard drive connection, and PCMag calls the Little Big Disk Thunderbolt 2 "the fastest external drive" they've ever tested. Just how fast? AnandTech got "just under 1400MB/s" with write speed "a little over 1100MB/s." And because it uses an SSD instead of a more traditional disk drive, it stays "whisper silent" according to TweakTown, so it won't get annoying during a long day at work. Even better, the Little Big Disk Thunderbolt 2 has two drives inside, letting you between RAID 0 and RAID 1 depending on your needs.
However, all this performance comes at a steep price. While most users won't need everything the Thunderbolt 2 has to offer, professional photographers and videographers working in small spaces will find it a solid choice.
