The big brother of the gdgt-recommended Black Widow, the Ultimate model adds a USB hub, more macros, headset ports, and backlit keys to one of the best mechanical keyboards out there. If you're looking for a great typing experience — for gaming or work — we think the less expensive Black Widow is a better deal. But if illuminated keys and the rest of the Ultimate's features are worth an extra $40 or so, we certainly wouldn't blame you for picking this one instead.

The BlackWidow from Razer is good all-around with the loud acoustics typical of the MX Blue switches ... the only drawback is the strikingly bad typography.

At $125, the Razer BlackWidow Ultimate is a competitively priced mechanical gaming keyboard in its range. We just wish Razer had done more to set this "Ultimate" edition apart from Razer's more affordable standard BlackWidow.

Razer made waves by designing its own keyswitches, and they're great for gameplay. But you'll want to switch (no pun intended) to something else when you need to type.

It’s not a bad keyboard, but in the face of truly excellent competition, I just can’t recommend the BlackWidow.

The BlackWidow Ultimate’s excellent build quality and nicely sized feature set more than make up for its few shortcomings. This one’s a winner.

So while it's a very solid and responsive keyboard, it's not one we could recommend, especially not for well over £100.

I was a little leery about spending so much on a keyboard, but I do not regret the purchase. The feedback from the mechanical keys takes a little getting used to and if you have a house/officemate who likes to work in peace this is not the keyboard for you. The back lit keys are a nice touch....

Over all this is a great keyboard. After trying many keyboards this one has got to be the best. It has the best response time I've found in a gaming keyboard. It's very nice to use and has a nice overall feel when typing for long amounts of time. Plus is makes you feel awesome when typing fast...

I really like this keyboard. Decent key travel, very tactile keys. I opted for the Dragon Age II edition. Not so much for the branding but for the red back-lights Much friendlier on the eyes than the glaring blue versions. I do wish the back-light colors were configurable. The extra function...

It's big, bright, and loud! I've poured many a cans of beer and pop on mine and used it as an ashtray for a cigar or two, its still glowing and clicking away.

The cost of this keyboard is a little prohibitive, but the feel of the Razer Black widow is second to none with the mechanical keys providing a feeling of an older keyboard but with modern functionality. If you don’t mind spending $100+ on a keyboard this is the one I would get.

This is one of the best mechanical keyboards out there. All the keyboards features, like the 5 extra macro keys, blue LED backlight, media control keys, and the Razer Synapse program, combine forces to make one hell of a keyboard. Once you go clicketty-clack, you never go back.

The feel of a mechanical keyboard is amazing! The Razer Blackwidow Ultimate is one of the cheapest illuminated mechanical keyboards you can get. The blue switches provide a great albeit loud click, be wary as it may annoy some users or people nearby. This tactile feel of the blue switches click...
