The Roku 1 has a budget price and adds 1080p video output over the similar Roku LT, but its appeal isn't as obvious as Roku's other streamers.

1 and 2, for instance, are a little thinner and more rounded than the flagship, which has fatter corners designed to accommodate the greater technology inside. All three are as light and easy to hold as ever, although 1 and 2 come with tacky bases.

The Roku LT and Roku 1 remotes are slightly different than those of the past, featuring direct-access buttons for Netflix, Amazon Instant, Blockbuster, and M-Go. Eagle-eyed Roku fanatics will also notice that the "jump back" button has been restored to the cheaper models.

The Roku 1 box offers a cheaper alternative to Roku 2 and 3, and comes with a standard IR remote rather than an RF remote like its big brothers, meaning you will have to point it directly at the box in order to use it.
