The size of the lens make a NEX camera system almost pocketable. ... It's an interesting little lens, but its price point and its performance are perhaps limiting it to strictly consumer application.

This lens was designed for the purpose of being pocketable, inexpensive, and a platform for a couple of add-on converters, like a fish-eye and super wide. ... If you have the NEX 18-55mm lens, and size is not a consideration, I'd forget about buying this 16mm ...

The Sony E 16 mm f/2.8 is certainly not the „pancake” which would set new standards. ... Whether its quality ... is enough, every photographer should determine on his/her own. We, however, are waiting for the test results of other wideangle “pancakes” which are going to be launched soon.
