ASUS makes EeePC 1015P and 1015PE official, endows them with 13.5 hours of battery life
It's hard to differentiate yourself in the netbook world nowadays -- pretty much every manufacturer is trudging along the same Pine Trail, with the same one, maybe two, gigabytes of RAM and 160GB to 320GB in storage. So ASUS, the original gangster of this sector, is aiming to wow consumers with a scintillating 13.5 hours of autonomous use courtesy of its 6-cell 63Wh battery pack. The EeePC 1015P and 1015PE differ only in aesthetics, with both sporting 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 screens and Atom N450 processors. No, that's not going to break any performance records, but if that longevity number proves true, we suspect there'll be plenty of eager buyers out there. Price and availability haven't yet been revealed, but ASUS doesn't usually keep us waiting so look out for these in the very near future.
ASUS Eee PC 1218 said to be Ion-based, more laptops coming May 13th
We'd already gotten a good look at ASUS' forthcoming Eee PC 1218 courtesy of the Red Dot design awards, and DigiTimes is now reporting one of its key details: that it will indeed be Ion-based (we'd presume Ion 2, but that still remains unclear). What's more, the site has also offered some more confirmation of ASUS' Eee PC 1015 / 1215, and says that ASUS will also be launching some new laptops on May 13th, including some bamboo-covered models and some "multimedia-enhanced models." In other ASUS news, the site also has a few choice quotes from the always talkative ASUS CEO Jerry Shen, who repeated his assertion that netbooks will continue to outsell tablets, and further went on to get specific and say that ASUS expects to sell between seven and eight million Eee PCs in 2010, which would bring its global netbook market share to 20%. Dell Vostro 1015 now on sale in America: starts at $429
Wait a second -- a business-centric laptop... with style? Dell's 15.6-inch Vostro 1015, which was announced alongside the still-unavailable (in the US, anyway) Vostro 1014 and Vostro 1088 back in August, has just emerged for purchase, and the relatively attractive case and low starting price definitely has our attention. Granted, the $429 base model gets saddled with a 2.2GHz Celeron 900 processor, but $629 buys you a 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo T6670, Windows 7 Professional, 3GB of DDR2 RAM, a 320GB (5400RPM) hard drive, dual-layer DVD burner, 2 megapixel webcam, integrated WiFi, GMA 4500MHD graphics and a 6-cell battery. Dell lets loose Vostro 10 series from bullet-time
We knew it was coming soon, and here it is, Dell's latest entry to the Vostro line of low-cost notes that won't break the bank -- but don't give off that netbook vibe, either. The three models are the 14.1-inch 1014 and 1088, and the 15.6-inch 1015. All feature Intel Core 2 processors, optical drives, 802.11n, two megapixel webcams, and maximum memory and storage allocations of 4GB and 320GB respectively. Other than screen size the only difference seems to be higher-end ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 graphics in the 1088, while the others make do with a rather more pedestrian Intel solution. Dell hasn't graced these with an official price in the US just yet, but that should change any minute now. [Via Pocket-lint]
