AT&T is throwing its globe trotting customers something of a bone with its Call International App. The free VoIP service, created with help from 8x8, will allow customers to place international long-distance calls over WiFi for much less than they would have to pay under standard roaming plans. Calls to China, France, Germany and the UK are as little as $0.04 a minute when dialing a landline. The app is available for all versions of the iPhone and certain Android and BlackBerry handsets. You can see if your device is supported (and chances are it is -- even the ancient BlackBerry 5810 has been granted access to the party) at the more coverage link. And don't miss the PR after the break.

Apparently, unveiling the HDS-41Rv13 HDMI Switcher just wasn't enough for RTCom, which has also rolled out its HS-88M Matrix Router. Hailed as the "industry's first" to allow for eight source displays, this device supports an 8-in, 8-out configuration, full HDCP compliance and control via RS-232, LAN (TCP / IP), infrared or the totally old school "front panel keys." This unit will also handle 36-bit Deep Color, resolutions up to 1080p at 60Hz, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, but don't expect such a solution to run ya cheap. How steep, you say? Try $7,499 steep.[Via Digital Extender]

  • SunRocket postpones service shutoff until August 5

Customers of failed VoIP provider SunRocket finally got some answers today after the service suddenly shut down ten days ago -- a message posted on the company's website officially broke the news that service is being discontinued and apologized to customers. SunRocket has brokered a deal to sell off some assets and keep things going until August 5th, and TeleBlend and 8x8 have apparently committed to providing former SunRocket customers with special rate plans. This pretty much kills those rumors that SunRocket had been acquired, so anyone feeling the burn had better port their numbers right quick -- after August 5th they'll just be a memory.[Via PC World]
