Oprah will be Alexa’s first celebrity-voiced shopping assistant
Alexa is getting its first celebrity voice. To go along with the Oprah's Favorite Things storefront on Amazon, users of Alexa-enabled devices can have Oprah herself guide them through this year's 102 favorite things. To do so, you'll just have to say, "Alexa, let's shop Oprah's Favorite Things." Oprah will then describe one of the products on her list and tell you why she recommends it. If you want to buy it, say "yes," if you don't, say "no," and Oprah will move on to another item.
Alexa helps Android users shop in the Amazon app
iPhone users have been enjoying Amazon's Alexa digital assistant within the retailer's main shopping app for some time. Now, however, Android owners can finally ask Alexa about package shipping, to watch a show on Netflix, or even to pay their American Express bill from the Amazon shopping app on their Google-powered handsets.
Amazon can judge your daily outfit choices
Amazon has a new perk exclusively for Prime members. The latest version of the e-commerce titan's app comes with a feature called "Outfit Compare" under the "Programs and Features" section, where you'd usually find all its newest offerings. Since its purpose is to compare two different OOTDs, you'd have to upload photos of yourself wearing the outfits. Amazon says it hired real stylists with experience in retail and the fashion industry to judge your clothes based on their fit, how the colors complement you and what's on trend. But as TechCrunch said, some part of the process could be automated, since you can get results in as little as a minute.
Amazon wants to give paid apps away for free
Downloads from Amazon's Appstore almost assuredly aren't the raging success that the company's ventures like Prime are, but the retail juggernaut isn't giving up on it yet. In fact, the former looks like it's getting an injection of the latter's DNA with something called Unlocked. According to a leak obtained by TechCrunch, Bezos and Co. are experimenting with the idea of offering paid apps and in-app purchases free of charge. It apparently isn't limited to games either, as Monument Valley and Sonic Dash sit alongside productivity apps like OfficeSuite 8 + PDF Converter.
You can now make Amazon purchases with an Android Wear watch
If you're an impulse buyer and own an Android smartwatch, you may not want to read this. Amazon's Google Play app for Android Lollipop now lets you "search for products, buy with 1-click or add products to (your) wish list" with an Android Wear watch. On top of being able to order a banana slicer instantly after yelling "start Amazon" at your wrist, you'll also get Android 5.0 (Lollipop) support. The app will work with Android 4.3 or higher, depending on your device. Ready to buy without even taking your phone out of your pocket? Really? Grab it here.
Amazon app released for the newest Windows Phone 7 models
It's an important day for Windows Phone 7 users. No, not because the free Amazon app was just launched in the Windows Phone Marketplace. It's because we get to test drive this Photoshop image in preparation for Friday. You feelin' it? [Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
