What is Aquatopia? We finally had a chance to play last week's Eye download. Of course, using the word "play" might be a stretch. The interactive screensaver takes advantage of the Eye by allowing you to tap on the top of the water. Some fish will follow the motion the camera detects, which is an interesting novelty ... but that's all it is.Unfortunately, Aquatopia simply doesn't engage enough to warrant a purchase. Yes, it's only $2 -- but that could easily go towards more involving affairs. What Aquavita is sorely missing as a screensaver is the ability to launch when the PS3 is idle, akin to Folding@home. That simple addition might make it far more worthwhile. Forcing the game to launch defeats its "screensaver" purpose.Visually, Aquatopia is okay. Seeing yourself in the reflection is meant to simulate the feel of looking into glass and it works. With just a little more interactivity, like the ability to drop fish food, we would've enjoyed this experience a lot more. Just pass on this one.%Gallery-8664%

Just like our GameTap Thursday post, it looks like our PSN Thursday post is coming in a little early because of the Turkey Day holiday. You pretty much know about most of this stuff already, but we're going to put it all on a platter after the break for easy consumption. The highlight this week -- and we're stretching that definition just a bit -- is the new PlayStation Eye titles Aquatopia and Operation Creature Feature.Of course, for the Rock Band faithful there is all the new DLC content available. Also, even though it's not part of the update, don't forget about the PSN "sale" going on right now.[Via PS3 Fanboy]

  • Two PlayStation Eye titles hit American PSN today

If you've yearned to have your PlayStation 3's electronic retina do something other than judge rectangular pieces of paper, today presents two new opportunities via the PlayStation Network store. The first, Operation: Creature Feature, has you herding little monsters through mazes, guiding them with the motion of your hands. The $4.99 investment might just help you defeat the habit of shaking your fist in the air whenever you feel frustrated -- every time you do that, you might inadvertently kill even more of the poor little things. If killing poor little things of the aquatic variety is also one of your neglectful habits, you'd best stick to the virtual fish in Aquatopia. Sure, it's a glorified $1.99 screensaver, but if you skipped Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted, it's probably the least fishy thing you'll have running on your PS3. It also explains the rather curious pile of Fish Flakes on top of James Ransom-Wiley's TV. [Via PS3 Fanboy]
