  • Bang & Olufsen adds WiFi to Beo6 remote control, doesn't think to mention it

It wasn't easy, but we finally managed to spot a few differences between the old Beo5 remote control and Bang & Olufsen's new Beo6 that just appeared on B&O's pages. To start with, the hyperbolic product page for the controller is a word-for-word copy of the old, only with each instance of a "5" replaced with a "6." The user guide doesn't provide much assistance either stating that the "Beo6 is fully compatible with Beo5" right down to using the exact same menus and controls. So what's new? Well, the new "wireless setup" chapter seems to be a clue indicating that the Beo6 can connect to your WiFi network to enable 2-way control with other Bang & Olufsen products supporting 2-way communication -- naturally, these aren't listed and any configuration of the controller will have to be done by a B&O retailer. We did manage to dig up an old article from BeoWorld claiming that the Beo6 would feature a touch (not pressure like the Beo5) sensitive widescreen display to show information like cover art and tag data just as soon as B&O's BeoSound 4 Encore and BeoSound 5 could support it. While this kind of product perplexity would be a knock against any other mainstream consumer electronic remote, B&O owners can rest easy knowing that their man servant will sort it all out.

  • Lumigon T1 with ICEpower amplifiers officially unveiled, to arrive 'by the very end of this year'

Just as promised, Denmark-based Lumigon has finally lifted the curtains over its much hyped T1 Android handset. Specs include an 800MHz Freescale i.MX515 chipset with an optional Qualcomm HSDPA modem, along with a 3.5-inch 480 x 800 capacitive touchscreen LCD, 5 megapixel autofocus camera, A-GPS, Bluetooth and FM radio. What the Scandinavian company's really selling here, though, is the phone's multimedia features: not only does it have a FM transmitter, a HDMI dock and Bang & Olufsen's renowned ICEpower audio amplifiers, but it also doubles up as an "innovative" universal remote control for your various AV devices -- pretty unique for an Android device, we'll give you that. Interestingly, the press release omits any mention of Froyo, so here's a glimmer of hope that Lumigon will manage to skin whatever the latest version of Android will be in time for the launch -- a few lucky outlets will receive the phones "by the very end of this year," just in time for your Christmas refunds. Oh, and remember the sister handset S1? We're now told that this T9 slider won't be out until Q3 2011. Sometimes it's better to take one step at a time, eh?%Gallery-105684%

  • ASUS NX90Jq now available... sort of

Remember this classic from way back at CES in January? We had such high hopes for the ASUS NX90 Jq. The 18.4-inch multimedia laptop boasts dual large touchpads and was designed by Bang & Olufsen's chief designer... and that shows. This beauty also has (in case you forgot) B&O ICEpower speakers, a Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GT 334M graphics, and can house up to 1280GB of storage. Now, we knew this thing wasn't going to be cheap from the first time we touched it -- $2,500. However, we didn't really expect to have to wait quite so long for it to hit retail. Well, if you don't mind purchasing things on the "internet," it looks like you can actually get one at a few retailers now for about that $2,500 price. Hit up the source link if you're ready to put down some cash or if you just like to window shop.

  • Bang & Olufsen announces 40-inch BeoVision 8 LCD

Come on, admit you: you know want a Bang & Olufsen LCD. Well, the BeoVision 8 which has just been announced, is a smaller, slightly less expensive one than the BeoVision 10 is -- so maybe you'll be able to afford it, after all. The 40-incher boasts 240Hz motion processing, resulting in a picture refresh rate that the guys at B&O say is nearly double conventional LCDs. Of course they've packed some banging B&O sound quality in there too -- and the BeoVision 8 will be available "this summer" for something in the neighborhood of $5,400. Full press release follows.

A 46-inch LCD with some high-end, built-in speakers from Bang & Olufsen? Yeah, this one won't come cheap, but it will definitely make more of a statement in your living room than the average big-screen LCD. Of course, if this one does look a tad familiar, it's because this new BeoVisoin 10-46 is basically just a larger version of Bang & Olufsen's existing 40-inch BeoVision 10, which boasts the same brushed aluminum frame, 200Hz refresh rate, and LED backlight as it's new, larger counterpart. No official word on a price, but the 40-incher came in at just under $10,000, so you can draw your own conclusions. Look for this one to hit "selected markets" (in Europe, most likely) sometime in April -- and if it's still a bit too small for you, you can always consider B&O's 103-inch BeoVision 4. [Thanks, John]

  • ASUS NX90Jq hands-on: dual touchpads unite! (update: video)

At long last we can say we've experienced a laptop with dual, gargantuan touchpads. The new NX90Jq has squandered a large amount of base real estate on massive, plastic touchpads, and we're digging it -- even if we don't totally understand it. Of course, if you've ever plugged two USB mice into a computer at once, you know exactly how these two pads work in concert, which is to say they don't. Outside of that we've got some real design chops on display, and a nearly disturbing but ultimately pretty impressive mirror back. Update: There's video after the break, along with some more extensive impressions. %Gallery-81567%

  • ASUS NX90Jq is Bang & Olufsen designed, has dual, turntable-like touchpads

It seems ASUS has been spending some time with Bang & Olufsen's Chief designer to create a heck of a laptop. There's no denying this is one sleek looking lappie with a polished aluminum exterior, but it's got some pretty cool tricks too -- including dual touchpads that supposedly gives you a DJ turntable-like experience. The high-def, 18.4-inch display is flanked by B&O ICEpower speakers and is clearly meant to live in your living room. It's not all looks here, though. It's got a Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GT 334M graphics, support for up to 1280GB of storage (with dual drives), a slot-in Blu-ray drive and USB 3.0. We've got no idea what this thing is going to cost ya, but we're hoping to dig up some details and get a hands-on look so stay tuned. %Gallery-81552%

  • Ferrari splitting ex-Gizmondo exec Stefan Eriksson's tale optioned for a movie

At last, former Gizmondo head honcho Bo Stefan Eriksson's story is finally going to be told on film -- or rather, the one told in Wired will be. Writer-director Craig Zobel and producer Beau Flynn have optioned the rights to create a movie based on the publication's October 2006 article "Gizmondo's Spectacular Crack-up" by Randall Sullivan, which chronicles the build up to his infamous car crash. Flynn's production company Contrafilm will be backing the project, and should the movie actually make it to theaters and be successful, we suspect there'll be plenty of material for a sequel. Bang & Olufsen's BeoSound 5 is only apt to be actually experienced by those with more disposable income than sense (or just loads of cash and a taste for finer things, actually), but even us laypeople can get a quick peek at this $5,900 music server / controller thanks to the wonders of YouTube. Hop on past the break to see what you're missing out on. Or what you're headed out to pick up today, you lucky, lucky individual.

  • Bang & Olufsen's BeoSound 5 hits US shores

Bust open the piggy bank, because Bang & Olufsen's BeoSound 5 will officially hit North American shores this month. For a mere $5,900, you can get into the two part system -- the black box BeoMaster 5 socket unit with 500GB of storage and internet connectivity and the drop-dead gorgeous BeoSound 5 master unit for cueing up your favorite tunes. Not sure what song to put on deck? No problem -- leave it to Bang & Olufsen's MOTS (More Of The Same) intelligent playlist technology to pick a mathematically perfect match. Sorry, but this setup is anything but "more of the same." Beat matching not included, but we still want one.

  • Bang & Olufsen's BeoSound 5 lands next year, is pure insanity

    by

    11.12.2008

Bang & Olufsen knows as well as anybody that you can't (usually) compete only on design and quality these days, people want functionality, and the much rumored, newly official BeoSound 5 is just such a monster. The unit is controlled by the BeoSound 5 controller, a rather large "remote" with a 10.4-inch XGA LCD and an aluminum scroll wheel. On the back end there's a 500GB BeoControl 5 music server running Windows XP Embedded with internet connectivity and patent pending intelligent playlist creation. Naturally there are outputs and inputs galore, and it's not just for audio: the box pumps out DVI-I and HDMI, and can play back plenty of video formats. Oh, but then there's the price. B&O isn't budging on this front, with a £3,500 tag (about $5,262 US) for when this hits in March 2009. We'll take two. [Via SlashGear]

  • Kanye West fails to single-handedly save B&O's handset biz

Looks like Bang and Olufsen might have a harder time getting out of the cellphone game than it thought -- especially now that Kanye's throwing cash at it. Yep, Yeezy just picked up the year-old Serenata in Singapore, and he's thoughtfully posted up some unboxing pics for us. We thought the Samsung-built handset was a hot little number when we played with it back in January at CES, but we've moved on since then -- it's a triband dumbphone, after all. We've got some hotter gear to show you, 'Ye -- call anytime.[Thanks, Philip]

  • Bang & Olufsen's BeoSound 5 controller in the wild?

    by
    Darren Murph

    10.13.2008

We're still retaining a slight bit of disbelief here, but the long teased BeoSound 5 controller could be awfully close to a formal release. Judging by scads of cryptic (and probably diluted) hints and just two images (one above, one after the break), we're led to believe that this here device will sit atop one's table and enable users to flip through multimedia and play back tunes through their Bang & Olufsen gear. The sell, obviously, is the design. Truth be told, this thing looks like something a few years ahead of its time at first glance, but considering just how ridiculous (that's a compliment, we'll have you know) the BeoCenter 2 looked over four years ago, we'd say this is just par for the course with B&O. Here's hoping some more concrete information flows forth shortly.[Thanks, JK]

  • Video: Touchless B&O remote control prototype

Isn't it nice to watch a sexy concept makes its first, quivering steps towards retail? You're looking at the graduation design project of Joris van Gelder: the Remote for B&O. The idea was to create a remote control for kitchen use. As such, it's meant to be (mostly) touchless in order to keep the remote free from bacteria or ether, depending upon your situation. The remote responds to finger gestures and lifts and falls in concert with the volume. Two videos after the break: the first showing the concept followed by the working prototype.[Via BEOWorld, thanks JK]

  • Samsung's F480 Armani (without the Armani), Dual Touch Chic G400 flip and F400 B&O slider

    02.11.2008

If mobile-review is right, then Samsung is about to unleash more than a dozen new phones at Mobile World Congress. Rather than overwhelm you with the lot, we've whittled down the selection to a few of our faves. First up, the F480 (pictured left) which casts aside its Armani rags for full-on Samsung branding. The 11.5-mm slim handset with 2.8-inch, 240 x 320 touchscreen features Samsung's latest Croix OS with tactile feedback. It's now sporting 3G connectivity, FM-radio, and the ever so popular 5 megapixel camera (with LED flash). Release is expected in April or May for between €350 and €400. Next up is Sammy's "Dual Touch Chic" G400 flip. Both the internal (2.2-inches, QVGA) and external displays are touch-sensitive surrounded by an all-metal shell. Expect a 5 megapixel camera, FM-radio, and 100MB with microSD expansion when it launches in by May for about €300. Last up is the latest B&O hookup, albeit in a more consumer acceptable slider format. Like the i450 before it, the F400 is a dual-slider: slide the front face up to reveal a keypad, down to slip the phone into music mode with exposed B&O speakers. Otherwise, it's a 3G phone with 2.2-inch QVGA display, RDS-enabled FM radio, and microSD card when it pops in late March with a €370-€390 price tag.

Aston Martin and Bang & Olufsen just announced a new "creative partnership." No details were provided but we can assume that it means the introduction of some B&O audio into future Aston Martin automobiles... and not the other way around. The result of which will be something you can neither afford nor differentiate from a Delco in the deep cacophony of rage known as mid-town Manhattan. Over the years, B&O's legendary designs have had us feeling everything from ewww to ahhh. The BeoSound 6 -- designed by Steffen Schmelling -- is a definite meh. Oh it looks alright, it's just nothing we haven't seen so many times before (uh, hmm) -- unusual for these mavericks of Danish style. Nevertheless, if you've just gotta smother yourself in a little B and O then we've got good news: the 4GB Beosound 6 DAP with 40-hour battery will be shipping "this holiday season" for $600.

Oh sure, it doesn't look like much now, but that illustration above is none other than the Serene II fashion(ish) phone courtesy of the FCC. Otherwise known as the Samsung developed SGH-F310, the latest Bang & Olufsen über design packs GSM with EDGE data, 3G WCDMA, and Bluetooth 2.0. It's just a guess, but from the looks of the backside pic above, we're expecting the Serene II to continue with the original Serene's clamshell design only sporting a curvy fade sure to make Trekkies swoon. The team of Samsung and Bang & Olufsen have returned with new product in hopes of finally demonstrating their combined design chops. Having failed to win us, or the public at large over with their Serene (aka, SGH-E910), the duo has returned with the WEP 420 "high class" Bluetooth headset. A sliding cover on the headset offers a clean, button-hiding design while helping to "block static." The cradle, which of course, charges the headset when not in use can also be "used an interior decoration item" which is... uh, huh? Available in March for an undisclosed price. [Via AVING]
