You can play 'Super Smash Bros. Ultimate' with banana controllers
The GameCube controller for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate might be sold out all over the place, but you don't need it to dominate the competition with your favorite fighter. All you need, it turns out, is a bunch of bananas. A Twitch streamer going by the handle ATwerkinYoshi did a little modding after a grocery trip and managed to turn seven bananas into makeshift buttons to play the latest installment of Smash.

Engadget Live L.A. was all about that bass (and some treble)
We've had a great run this year with all our Engadget Live events, taking us to Austin, Seattle, Boston and finally Los Angeles. We packed into the Belasco Theatre in downtown L.A. along with some amazing people and exhibitors -- one who was all about that bass and some...bananas.

If pressed, we're not sure we could eat an entire banana in 60 seconds -- they're just so dry and heavy, you know? We certainly couldn't come close to the achievement of championship eater Takeru Kobayashi, who, at a recent Donkey Kong Country Returns launch event, slammed 16 'nanners in a minute.

Fortunately for you, the good people at Laan Consulting have already thought of this. They've anticipated this eventuality and are now shipping the iPhone Sonar Ruler [iTunes link] for just a buck on the iTunes Store. Yes, these good folk have imbued the iPhone with sonic goodness. As the video on the next page shows, the application sends short pulses and measures their return delay. Sure, you could go out to Office Depot and spend twenty bucks getting a far more reliable, dedicated unit but isn't it more fun to help support iPhone devs while really pushing the device beyond its design intent? It's-a Mario World: Infuriating Items
Let's make one point very clear from the onset: The Mario Kart series has thoroughly rocked our boxers since 1992. Despite some shortcomings we still have pretty high praise for Wii's latest iteration, and most fanboys agree that there currently exists no better Nintendo Wi-Fi experience. For everything Mario Kart does right, though, there always seems to be a cheaply overpowered item that renders even the most skilled racer indefensible.So this is us venting. We have seen too many races (and online VR points) slip away on account of nasty item distribution. The series' long-standing method of reserving the best (or at least most destructive) pickups for trailing racers can be especially frustrating to those who would have otherwise earned a legitimate first place rank. Competition, in effect, is deadened by a deliberately equalized playing field. Mario Kart's algorithm for item probability is more at fault than the items themselves, but you know you've cussed out a spiny blue shell before. Now get angry with us in our new rant gallery. Well Fed Buff: Deep Fried Plantains
Every Thursday, Well Fed Buff serves up the tastiest dishes to boost your HP and stats, just in time for your weekend gaming. When I first saw Deep Fried Plantains drop from a mob, I immediately thought to myself: banana-cue! Pronounced 'banana queue', as in "barbecue" or "I wanna queue up at the Battlemaster," this simple delicacy is a popular street food in the Philippines, usually skewered with sticks made from bamboo. Kind of like banana kebabs. They're really simple to prepare... probably the simplest of all Well Fed Buffs so far, so even those who have a low cooking skill should be able to prepare them. You can use this recipe to raise your cooking skill, so you can tackle more complex recipes like Winter's Veil Bark or Dragonbreath Chili. The mats: A bunch of Banana Charms 2-3 cups of Copper Powder (more or less. cooking banana cue Deep Fried Plantains isn't rocket science) A Bubbling Cauldron A Flask of Oil A few more instructions and gratuitous pictures after the jump.
New WoW site for non-combat pets
With the release of the latest WoW TCG expansion, a new in-game pet has arrived, Bananas the Monkey. Looking into this has led me to a wonderful site dedicated to collecting all the non-combat pets in Warcraft. And when I say "dedicated", I mean "look no further than this site."World of Warcraft Small Pet has checklists, FAQs, guides to getting pets exclusive to the opposing faction, screenshots, extensive information for each pet, you name it. Now, I have a fair collection of non-combat pets, mostly from seasonal events like the mechanical yeti from Winterveil and Willy from Children's Week. I also quested for the Sprite Darter Hatchling out of Feralas back when the zone was in my level range. But this site is for the serious collector.Check it out and then tell me: frightening obssession or one more kind of pleasant activity to pass the time in-game?
