Developer Bloober Team is headed "back to the drawing board" with its downloadable PlayStation 4 game Basement Crawl, announcing plans to recreate the project from scratch following a largely negative critical reception. Inspired by Hudson's Bomberman series, Basement Crawl is a multiplayer action game in which players compete to be the last creature standing in a series of explosive overhead-view battles. Critics were not fond of the final product upon its launch earlier this year, citing a wide range of gameplay flaws and technical issues.

The PlayStation Store updated today with new games across every platform, led by the launches of Thief and Basement Crawl on PS4. Thief joins another new release in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 on PS3 this week. PS3 owners can pick up The Batman Bundle, which includes Batman: Arkham Origins and the Batman: The Dark Knight Returns animated film as well as the Tales of Symphonia Chronicles bundle that comprises both Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. Rounding out this week's PS3 additions is Magus and Pac-Man Museum, the latter being a $20 pack of games spanning the yellow gobbler's series. Vita owners only get one new game this week: Mahjong 2 World Contest, as well as PSOne Classic Herc's Adventures, also available on PS3 and PSP. Though Vita owners can now download the Crackle app to watch movies and TV shows, the marquee media streaming addition this week is the WWE Network app on PS3 and PS4. [Image: Square Enix]

Heads up, Bomberman fans: Bloober Team's PlayStation 4-exclusive competitive multiplayer game Basement Crawl has finally surfaced after a series of delays, and is set to arrive digitally via the PlayStation Network next week in North America and Europe. Basement Crawl pushes the Bomberman formula to M-rated extremes, letting players messily exterminate their friends in four-player local and eight-player online multiplayer modes. The game also offers a single-player campaign that pits solo players against murderous AI-controlled psychopaths. Basement Crawl will be available for $9.99 when it hits PSN in North America on February 25. A European release, priced at €9.99, will follow on February 26. [Image: Bloober Team]

Indie developer Bloober Team has announced that PlayStation 4-exclusive strategy-action game Basement Crawl will not be released this week as originally planned. This marks the second major delay for Basement Crawl, a game first announced as a PS4 launch release. "While the completed version of Basement Crawl was prepped for launch during the last week, several exciting opportunities to partner with major industry players to enhance, refine and add to the game arose," stated Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno in an announcement this morning. "Although a difficult decision, we decided that the best choice for us, as a team, was to delay Basement Crawl so that we could take full advantage of these opportunities." Babieno makes no mention of what these opportunities might be, nor does he offer a new release date for Basement Crawl. Intriguingly, he does say that these opportunities will help "grow and improve the game while still providing an amazingly fun multiplayer experience for PS4 owners." Despite whatever changes Basement Crawl may see, Bloober Team still plans to release the game to the PlayStation Network during the first quarter of 2014.

PS4 trap-em-up Basement Crawl plans to blow up in Europe on January 29, and in North America "soon." This is our first look at the gameplay of Bloober Games' maze-based action title, and the Spy vs. Spy and Bomberman inspirations aren't hard to spot. That said, we doubt the Dyna Blaster ever got a M-17 rating in his time. While Basement Crawl does have single-player campaigns with bot support, the real fun looks to be its local four-player and online eight-player arenas. If you're stoked for some mazy melee, the admission fee is £8/€10 in Europe, and $10 in North America.

Bloober Team revealed a handful of new screens for Basement Crawl, the developer's PS4-exclusive action/strategy game, showing off the top-down view of the Bomberman-esque levels in the dark game. The developer previously offered a creepy teaser trailer for the game, which we've included above. Basement Crawl will include four and eight-player multiplayer modes, and has basement crawlers setting traps for their enemies. The game's creative director Peter Bielatowicz said the game will be "as skill-based as possible" and the developer will work to omit "the luck factor and remove the dependence on leveling-up characters." Basement Crawl is coming to PS4 "very soon."

If you have no qualms with being the thing that goes bump in the night, Blooper Games' Basement Crawl will offer a multiplayer-focused platform to murder your friends. Creative Director Peter Bielatowicz describes Basement Crawl as a skill-focused, maze-based 2.5D action game that focuses on setting traps for opponents. Bielatowicz wants it to be "as skill-based as possible" and is working to "exclude the luck factor and remove the dependence on leveling-up characters." Blooper Games plans to offer 4-player local play, 8-player online play and combinations of both as scenarios to host the destruction of friendships. Stand-in bots will be available for a friend's absence during single player campaigns. Basement Crawl is being developed for the PS4 launch window, but its release date is yet to be determined.

Bloober Team, the Polish development studio responsible for Last Flight and Music Master Chopin, has announced Basement Crawl as its next project. Beyond the fact that the game is a PlayStation 4 title set to drop within the console's release window, however, nothing else is known about the game. Well, and that it's got this clown in it presumably. We're sorry about that, by the way, it's just that we had to see this clown thing, and so now you do also – we just can't take the full brunt of its nightmare fuel. By sharing it with you, our most beloved readers, its terrible power is diluted and eventually we'll be able to defeat it. But at what cost?
