The internet has made it easy to find cheats for games, but we miss the tips pages from game magazines, when the discovery of a new code could inspire you to go back to an old game. These codes aren't exactly new, but oldness is the essence of the Virtual Console! We're bringing back the classic codes every week on The VC Advantage.Bloody Wolf (TG16)Is it possible for a game to be any more retro-war-game than Bloody Wolf? You've got hostages handing you power-ups, shirtless commandos, and unattended motorcycles. It's the total opposite of the dour Call of Brothers of Company of Medal of Whatever stuff we have now. Ridiculous cheats complete the experience!Hover Mode: At the title screen, press down, up, left, left, II, II, I, Select, Run. The Bloody Wolf dudes were already eerily similar to Princess Peach, right? This code gives them the same hover-jump. The resemblance is just uncanny. Fast Mode: At the title screen, press up, down, right, right, I, I, II, Select, Run. Gain Ground (GEN)Level Select: At the options screen, press A, C, B, C. This lets you skip all of that troublesome ground-gaining, because, really, who wants to gain ground?Military Madness (TG16)Madness? This is ... oh, right, this is madness.Switch Sides: At the continue screen, hold Select and press Run. The best way to punish the opposing faction is to lose as them. It uses a skill-- losing-- with which you've already demonstrated proficiency!

We can't ever get enough of Kirby around here. He's just so cute and puffy. So obviously, when we think Kirby, we think golf. Because, uh ... balls are round. Yep. And what goes well with golf? Commandos. Right. We don't get this week's pair of releases either, but hey ... maybe opposites really do attract. In belated celebration of Father's Day, today's Virtual Console releases uphold the spirit of proper and dignified competition amongst gentlemen of all ages. At 9AM PST, don your finest collared shirt to partake in a classy game of golf, flex your muscles in preparation for a grueling bout at the Olympics and then laugh maniacally as you mow down enemy soldiers in man's oldest sport, senseless killing. Hey, we didn't pick 'em. NES Open Tournament Golf (NES, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points): Enjoy a long and relaxing walk with Mario, stopping occasionally to batter an innocent white ball with a large club. Tournament and Match Modes sound enjoyable enough, though you'll probably want to put on a hat for Stroke Mode. World Sports Competition (TurboGrafx-16, 1-5 players, 600 Wii Points): Comprised of 18 events, the Olympics competition sees the world's most skilled photographers competing to capture the first image of a legendary creature, the Olym! Bloody Wolf (TurboGrafx-16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points): In this top-down shooter, it's up to you to rescue the president and otherwise blow up the sort of people who make jokes like the one in the paragraph above.
