Can a high-tech car seat offer a safer ride for your baby?
Properly installing a car seat is a struggle all parents with young children face. At CES this year, a company called 4moms is showing off its solution to the problem: a self-installing car seat that employs robotics. Once you attach the base's anchors to the hooks in your vehicle, the car seat automatically levels itself and properly tensions those belts to secure it. There's also an app that offers voice-guided step-by-step installation instructions, should the need arise.
Ford car seat prototype keeps its sensors on your heart, so you can keep your eyes on the road
Chevy had the whole "Heartbeat of America" thing cornered in the 80s, but now its Ford's turn to get in on the action. The car maker's European research team unveiled a prototype car seat capable of monitoring a driver's heart courtesy of six embedded electrodes, which can take measurements without coming in direct contact with skin. The technology, the latest in a recent string of health-related in-vehicle concepts from the company, can detect whether the driver is having a heart attack and transmit that information to the vehicle's safety system. According to the researchers, the system is already highly accurate in its prototype state, making correct readings for 98 percent of drive time with 95 percent of the drivers tested. Britax unveils speaker-packed car seat to rock baby asleep
Let's face it, it's not exactly feasible (or safe) to rock the kid to sleep whilst manning the wheel down I-5, which is why you should seriously look Britax's way for your next baby-related purchase. This luxurious car seat reportedly sports a "Reflection Sound System" that cranks out tunes around the infant's head, and while we all know it's just a ploy to keep the youngster from wailing any longer, the manufacturer is boasting about the mental benefits of piping Bach into your kiddo's brain at an early age. Portable sounds aren't the only thing it's got going for it, however, as the safety factor is also pretty high considering the well-padded surroundings, height adjustable head guard, automatic shoulder belt adjusting device, and a soft mat on the bottom to protect your whip's interior.
