  • Raspberry Pi helps old school pinball machine spew internet cliches

Pinball machines have been created from a single meme, so why not base one on, say, all of them? Liberty Games decided to refurbish an old and busted "Baby Doll" machine with all the cats, doges and "winter is coming" memes they could wedge in, while giving it a tech spit-shine with a 3D printer and Raspberry Pi. First they spiced up the play field with 3D-printed Grumpy Cat, Doge and Actual Advice Mallard figurines and new graphics. All the old mechanical relays were then wired to a Pi to to play meme videos on an LCD screen for certain actions -- like a Rickroll if you lose. We're not sure if the experimental game is actually for sale, but if so, shut up and take my money!

  • Such livery, very race: Dogecoin car to join NASCAR '14

In its quest to accurately recreate the thrills of NASCAR, developer Eutechnyx has revealed plans to distribute Josh Wise's car in an upcoming NASCAR '14 DLC release - a car that just so happens to bear the confusingly endearing face of doge. Unfamiliar with doge? We don't how that's even remotely possible at this point, but as a quick primer, the online humor researchers at Know Your Meme describe doge as "a slang term for 'dog' that is primarily associated with pictures of Shiba Inus (nicknamed "Shibe") and internal monologue captions on Tumblr." Over the past year, doge has grown into such a beloved Internet fixture that fans of the Bitcoin cryptocurrency developed Dogecoin, a similar virtual currency that bears the adorable, mischievous smile of doge in place of the Bitcoin logo or the face of a long-dead politician. That brings us to earlier this year, when teenaged NASCAR fan Denis Pavel was watching a race and noticed a black Ford with no sponsorship livery to speak of. Given that most NASCAR entrants are equal parts automobile and rolling billboard, this machine stuck out like a sore thumb, prompting Pavel to rally members of the NASCAR subreddit to raise the $50,000 necessary to cover Josh Wise's car in a full-body Dogecoin ad. The livery proved immediately popular, especially among younger NASCAR fans. Seeing this, NASCAR '14 developer Eutechnyx decided to add the vehicle to its racer in an upcoming DLC pack. "As the company behind the NASCAR video games and mobile games, we love to see more technology-oriented partners getting involved in NASCAR," Ed Martin, executive vice president of Eutechnyx, told CNN. "I think it will bring NASCAR to the attention of a lot of people that haven't been exposed before." So far there's no specific date for the DLC release, but we've attempted to contact publisher Deep Silver for further information and will report back when and if we hear anything. • This motion controlled dog wants to be the Candy Crush of physical therapy

Physical therapy isn't fun. It's a physical and emotional challenge that often consists of dull, repetitive tasks. It's boring, and offers patients almost no short-term rewards for their very real efforts -- but maybe it doesn't have to be that way. A new software platform called Visual Touch Therapy is trying to make physical rehabilitation fun, gamifying repetitive exercises by marrying a Leap Motion controller, a PC and a simple meme-inspired video game. The game itself is fairly simple: players perform simple motions over the Leap controller that cause a dog character to run (or fly a jetpack) across the screen, and their performance and improvement can be tracked, quantified and even sent to their physical therapist for review.

I believe we can all agree that The Elder Scrolls Online is not a sandbox in the MMORPG sense. However, the game starts to branch out as your level increases. Although it will never be an MMO sandbox, it does start to resemble the single-player sandbox, except there are tons of other people playing at the same time. Just like those single-player sandboxes, ESO allows us to do pretty much whatever we want when we want to. It's an explorer's dream, if you ask me. Of course, we might be able to find some of those explorable items on the in-game map, but many of them remain hidden until we just land on them. Today, I'd like to talk about a few of the items that I think every ESO explorer should be aware of.

  • Such wow -- First Dogecoin wallet is out on iOS

Cryptocurrencies have exploded over the last few years, creating nongovernmental economies that allow users to buy goods with "money" made from ones and zeros. The craze kicked off with Bitcoin, but other competitors are rising with surprising regularity pulling their inspiration from figures like Kanye West (who sued) and traditional startup ideas alike. Still only one cyrptocurrency has recently been growing in a way that should make cryptocurrency fans say "wow." Or maybe "such wow." That currency is Dogecoin. Inspired by the famous "Doge" meme, Dogecoin was founded out of a desire to have a cryptocurrency that was free from the sometimes shady uses Bitcoin became famous for early in its existence. Currently the fifth most popular cryptocurrency being traded, Dogecoin has been growing steadily. That growth can only be helped with the recent launch of Dogecoin's own iOS digital wallet, MYDOGE. MYDOGE allows users to quickly and easily manage their Dogecoin wallet, while keeping up to date on how the currency is trading on digital markets. While the app currently doesn't allow users to make purchases directly from the wallet, you can still share your wallet's address by scanning your QR code. MYDOGE launched on February 6, so it is still in the puppy stage of its existence. Still this is a big first step for fans the digital currency that will allow its disciples to easily show off and explain Dogecoin to new people using a familiar interface. We're not quite to the "such wow" level of excitement over this app just yet, but MYDOGE is something you should keep your ears open for. This is an important first step. We'll be curious to see if MYDOGE can help dig up new users of the currency. We'll also be curious if Apple keeps the app in the store, considering the final Bitcoin wallet was just removed.

Wow. This is a prototype Steam Machines box from iBuyPower, courtesy of our friends at Engadget. The box comes in two flavors (codenamed "Gordon" and "Freeman," of course), as the center strip is either clear or black when not illuminated with varying colors. Much glow. While iBuyPower wasn't willing to share the specs of its version of the Steam-powered hardware, it said the system will run Steam games at 60 frames per second in 1080p. The system is expected to be ready for a 2014 launch, and the two prototype models currently run an early build of SteamOS, the operating system Valve announced would be on its own Steam Machines hardware. Both were announced alongside a Steam Controller in September. Very Steam Box. Much update: The Verge reports that the system will include a "multicore AMD CPU and a discrete AMD Radeon R9 270 graphics card" and comes with a 500 GB hard drive, bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities. That CPU is very core.
