Camera maker DxO Labs files for bankruptcy
DxO Labs, maker of the DxO One camera attachment and PhotoLab, FilmPack and ViewPoint photo software, has filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection, PetaPixel reports. The company did so on March 7th and DxO Labs says it's now undergoing a restructuring of its business. "We are very confident that this procedure, which should not last for more than a few more weeks, will not affect our customers in any way," the company said in a statement. The bankruptcy won't apply to the camera testing and rating company DxOMark, which was spun off from DxO Labs last September.
DxO's snap-on Android camera is now available to pre-order
DxO One is a compact snap-on camera that drastically improves the quality of your smartphone photos, but only iPhone users have been able to benefit so far. It recently arrived on Android, however, and is now up for pre-order as a fairly attractive "Early Access Pack." For $499, you get the camera, a protective shell and DxO's PhotoLab software, effectively saving about $260. The caveats are that there's still no shipping date, and the device only works on newer models that have built-in USB Type-C ports.
Shoot RAW photos on your iPhone with this tiny camera
Apple's keen to remind the world how great the camera on the iPhone 6 is with its new "Shot on iPhone 6" billboards. But, some mobile photographers want more. That's where the new DxO One comes in. It's tiny camera that attaches to the iPhone's Lightning port. It shoots RAW images with a 20.2 MP one-inch CMOS BSI sensor behind an f/1.8 32mm equivalent lens. The One can shoot independent of the iPhone, but when attached with the companion app launched, it turns the iPhone into a large viewfinder with the same manual controls found on a DSLR. The camera is available for pre-order now in the US for $599 and will ship in September.
