Click image to pummel your eyes with screenshots Some fresh screens from Fight Night Round 4 have made their way into the ring and, as one might expect, they're chock full of punching dudes (and a few dudes getting punched). Based on everything we've seen so far, we'd say Fight Night Round 4 has a real shot at the title, through a combination of some solid physics and the controls established in previous entries (though, there's always room for improvement). We'll find out if it's the real deal this summer, when it releases on the Xbox 360 and PS3. In the meanwhile, bob and weave your way into our gallery below to check out the new shots.%Gallery-51203%

A new video for Fight Night Round 4 is available for your viewing pleasure. In it, producer Brian Hayes talks about what changes players can expect from Round 3 to Round 4 with respect to the game's physics. He explains that in the first game, there was an invisible wall keeping the two boxers separated, which is not the case in Round 4. The next installment will feature improved collision detection and less clipping, which is something Hayes hopes allows for more realistic punching people in the face and/or body.If you're not content with the video, punch your way into our gallery below, which is full of new screens. %Gallery-49998%

First things first: Mike Tyson, where's your face tattoo?! Second: We've got a load of new screens from semi-perennial pugilist Fight Night Round 4, presented in a gallery just a few inches down. Do the shots look good? Just as good as when we saw the game in action earlier this month. With Fight Night Round 4 still months away from any formal release (the game's slated to come out swinging "this summer"), we suggest you check out the trailer in the meantime. Hopefully we'll have some hands-on impressions for you sometime in the near future.%Gallery-47652%

IGN has uploaded a new gameplay trailer for the recently announced Fight Night Round 4 and it's pretty much full of what you'd expect: sweaty men getting their punch on. The cover's boxers, Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson, are featured in the video past the break and, well, we won't spoil who wins. Actually, we're lying: we couldn't if we wanted to. This one's a cliffhanger.

There will be plenty of butterfly floating and bee stinging in the ring this summer, as EA announced that Muhammad Ali will be one of two cover athletes for Fight Night Round 4. The boxing legend will share the space with powerhouse and controversy magnet Mike Tyson. We just hope Ali knows to duck out of the way should Tyson's eyes flash red before schooling "Iron Mike" in a lesson of sweet science. Both will be playable in the upcoming title, which is currently in development at EA Canada. Also, eager players who lay down a pre-order for Fight Night Round 4 at GameStop will net early access to the game's demo, giving them some extra time to live out pugilistic dreams before the rest of the world laces up.

Hey you! Yes, you, the fashionable gamer over there. Would you like to learn about Fight Night Round 4 (which won't be made by the studio that made Round 3, incidentally)? Would you like to see the very first glimpse of the game (possibly including Mike Tyson)? Well, according to a new teaser trailer (embedded after the break), you can see exactly that during the Spike Video Game Awards on December 14 at 9:00pm Eastern. Looks like you'd better clear your calendar right now. Or, you know, you could just wait until the next day when the footage will be all over the internet. It's your call, really.

Quick, before someone makes them pull it down, check out the shaky-cam footage of Fight Night Round 4 some adventurous GameStop employee captured at the company's recent expo. Go ahead, it's right after the jump. We can wait, we've got a few other things we needed to do anyway.... Finished? Honestly, after a string of disappointing boxing titles, we think that taking a more physics-based approach sounds pretty intriguing, but we're worried that the realism might start to bog down the fun. What do you think?[Thanks, MOT]

  • EA Sports looking into possible subscription program future

During yesterday's EA conference call, EA Sports boss Peter Moore briefly mentioned concepts the studio is considering for the future of their various titles. Moore stated they were looking at instituting "subscription programs" to the EA Sports library in order to "take advantage" of customer loyalty. Of course this could translate to a number of ideas so before we get bent out of shape we should consider it doesn't have to be a bad thing.Consider a subscription based model that would drop by-the-minute roster updates for your favorite sports games over multiple seasons rather than having to plunk down another full retail chunk of change. While we can't guess what might, if anything at all does, come of this idea we can at least credit EA for being one of the publishers that keeps trying to innovate. Whether some like it or not.

Two years since the last title in the series, and the closing of the development office responsible for the franchise, EA has announced plans to release Fight Night Round 4 sometime next year for the Xbox 360 and PS3.Few details on the new release exist besides the mention of a new physics and gameplay engine (will it bare the Freestyle brand too?). The most interesting addition to the series is the inclusion of former World Champion Mike Tyson, his first videogame appearance in over nearly a decade. Insert ear-biting joke here.[via Joystiq]

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/gaming_news/Fight_Night_Round_4_ANNOUNCED_Mike_Tyson_baby'; It's been two years since the last Fight Night game was released, which is practically eons ago in the annualized sports game world. But EA announced this afternoon that fans need wait no longer as Fight Night will return for "Round 4" at some point next year on Xbox 360 and PS3.There are few details at this point, other than what you'd expect (new gameplay engine, new physics, etc.). Perhaps most exciting is that Mike Tyson will appear in the game, more than a decade after both his last video game appearance and his last brush with relevance.

  • EA reveals 'Facebreaker,' a tooned-up Fight Night

Are you Ready 2 Rumble? "No," says EA's newly announced boxing game, Facebreaker. "But I do feature real-time facial deformation and a lighthearted approach to pugilistic pummeling! So really, I'm more like a Fight Night cel-out." According to the folks at 1UP, Facebreaker is being developed by EA Canada for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii. Says EA's Peter Moore: "Arcade boxing takes me back to my roots in this industry, and this game signals our shift to adding more approachable fun to our product lineup."Those approaching the fun will find an inevitably "colorful" cast of playable caricatures to choose from, including "Latin lover" Romeo and "an oversized Russian demolitions expert" called Molotov. If you'd prefer to have your own face broken, you can either integrate a personal photo via Game Face technology or simply wear your Tingle costume when buying the game from the store.More Facebreaker details can be found in the March 2008 issue of EGM.

  • Fight Night elbowing its way onto the Wii?

While it's still in the discussion stages -- don't listen when your buddy runs up, throws a left hook, and dances around your prone form crowing about Fight Night -- it does seem that there's a good chance that EA's boxing game will make an appearance on the Wii. In an interview with Doghouseboxing.com, producer Michael Blank focused on the need to tailor the controls and the foundation laid in Wii Sports to accommodate the level of detail and realism in Fight Night. We don't think it'll take as much work as they insinuate (Blank is trying hard to distance his boxing sim from the simplistic play in Wii Sports), but at the same time, it's heartening to hear an EA rep say that they're not going to port a game unless they can do it right.Of course, that doesn't mean that's what's going to happen. After all, Fight Night Round 3 went to the PSP. But a girl can dream, can't she?

If you've grown tired of furiously pummeling those smiling Miis in Wii Boxing, there's hope for you yet. Speaking to Gabriel Montoya of Doghouseboxing.com, the producer of Fight Night Round 3 explains that a Wii entry into the fisticuff franchise is currently being discussed within the towering offices of EA. "We're contemplating and we definitely feel there are some exciting things we can do with the Fight Night franchise and the Wii," says Michael Blank. "When you play Wii Boxing it is a very simple experience and I think that is what they designed it to be just to let you know that you can throw punches. With Fight Night we have an amazing simulation of Boxing and so we need to take those Wii controls and tailor it to what the Fight Night consumer might want to experience." Though nothing definitive has been announced, Fight Night Round Wii seems like an inevitability. With SSX Blur showing EA's willingness to embrace an alternative control set and Wii Boxing providing a solid, albeit simplistic boxing example, the way is paved. Even if it is with bloody teeth. • Assassin's Creed nominated for Visual Effects Society awards

Come February 11 Assassin's Creed could be taking home two Visual Effects Society awards, for 'Outstanding Real Time Visuals in a Video Game' and 'Outstanding Pre-Rendered Visuals in a Video Game', as the visual effects organization hosts its fifth annual awards ceremony at the Kodak Grand Ballroom in Hollywood, CA. A pair of impressive accolades would certainly look good on the retail box, but how can a game with an unconfirmed release date be considered for a real time visuals award next month? We suppose nominating Assassin's Creed for pre-rendered kudos (based on the trailer?) is admissible (as long as the game doesn't win), but don't go heralding Ubisoft's title as a real time effects masterpiece when a playable demo isn't even publicly available. Why not consider Assassin's Creed for a VES award next year; and give credit to current games instead? As it stands, the PlayStation 3 version of Fight Night Round 3 is the only other title nominated in this year's 'Real Time Visuals' category.

  • In-game ads adapting

While in-game ads aren't new, Wired News explores recent additions to the trend. Some advertisements are becoming more overt, while other forms of product placement are more subtly placed in games. Adidas uses the product-placement route with frequent branding in NBA Live 07. Burger King takes the obvious, if comical approch in Fight Night Round 3, with an unlockable King mascot character who joins your ringside entourage. Acclaim plans a different approach with free, ad-supported MMO games; pop-up ads from corporate sponsors would let you know which real-world company just paid for your in-game sword. We're interested in seeing how gamers view that tradeoff, but clearly there's a line where too many ads will scare players away. Let it be known that we don't ignore positive Sony news at 360Fanboy: Recall last week's announcement that EA will grace the PS3 with an upgraded version of Fight Night: Round 3 including a first-person mode, ESPN integration, and some minor graphical polish. When I first heard this, I was annoyed that there are no plans to release this stuff as downloadable content on XBLM. Then I realized, by the time Joe Average gets his hands on PS3, we'll likely be enjoying Fight Night Round 4. Still, it's nice that PS3 fanboys have something to cling to in their hour of need. Maybe EA should throw in some 1080p Burger King ads to really spread the cheer.

It was announced today that the successful next-gen boxing sim Fight Night Round 3 will hop from the 360 ring and into the PlayStation 3 squared-circle. However, for this round EA Chicago is handing off the port duties to EA Canada. And, instead of just a straight transition, a first-person mode called "Get in the Ring" will be added. Also included in the PS3 version will be EA's ESPN ticker integration that has updated news and sports info. The game is scheduled to be released this holiday season. This all makes us wonder when Fight Night Round 4 will be released for both consoles. Is EA going to hold that back until Round 3 has collected enough prize money?

Team Xbox forum member Xpoc decided to make the most mismatched fight he could in Fight Night Round 3. Using the character creation tool, he managed to create the scene pictured to the left; a sort of next-gen variation of Punch Out's diminutive Little Mac going mano a mano with King Hippo. The image to the right, of Russian giant Nikolai Valuev getting annoyed with John Ruiz, is a reminder that life often imitates art. Who booked that fight anyways... Doc Louis?
