This week on Xbox Live, you can get into a fight for cheap. And not the kinds of fights you get into with racists over chat – the kind you might actually enjoy. The XBLM Deal of the Week, active from today through Oct. 8, gives you half off Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online Edition, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix, and Dungeon Fighter Live – the last one not really fitting the theme, but at least it has "Fighter" in the title.Other deals going on this week include discounts on Activision-published games, Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition, and Fighters Uncaged for Kinect.

  • Child of Eden, other Ubi Kinect games for $30 at GameStop

If you let the recent $35 Child of Eden deal at Amazon pass you buy, you made what is, in retrospect, a shrewd move, because now you can get it for $30. The discount is part of a Kinect sale going on at GameStop through July 20, which brings four other Ubisoft Kinect games down to $30, including Your Shape and Michael Jackson: The Experience. If you're just shrugging your shoulders at this sale because you don't have a Kinect (and therefore your shoulder shrug doesn't register as an in-game movement), GameStop also has an offer for you: a $25 GameStop gift card with purchase of the sensor. Now, if only there were something you could put that $25 towards ... oh, wait! [Thanks, Steve.]

Amazon is currently offering a "select game" for 50 percent off when you buy a Kinect sensor. Yes, the word "select" should scare you a bit. The selection the online retailer is offering up features a couple solid workout games, but the rest is the C-team of Kinect titles. Your choices include Your Shape Fitness Evolved and The Biggest Loser Ultimate Workout, along with Dance Central wannabes Dance Paradise and Dance Masters. And then we get to Fighters Uncaged and Fantastic Pets, the latter of which features a creepy, smiling horse on its cover. Nayyyyyy, nay we say.

  • UFC suing Ubisoft over Fighters Uncaged catchphrase

We thought that Ubisoft would be the recipient of a lawsuit over its Kinect-equipped fighting game, Fighters Uncaged, but we'd assumed said suit would have something to do with the game's near-lethal terribleness. As it turns out, the Ultimate Fighting Championship took umbrage with the game for another reason: The organization is claiming that the game's on-the-box catchphrase of "Become the Ultimate Fighting Weapon" too closely mirrors the group's name, and may cause shoppers to think they're actually purchasing an officially licensed UFC game. The group is seeking unspecified damages from Ubisoft, as well as a ceasing of sales of the game until the offending phrase is removed from its packaging. Man, first "It's On Like Donkey Kong," and now this -- is nothing sacred anymore? We can't count the number of times we refer to ourselves in conversation as the "Ultimate Fighting Machines" or "The Kings of Ultimate Fighting." We're talking like, dozens of times per day.

  • Fighters Uncaged unreview: It's unbelievably ungood

One time, I was pushing a TV around so I could watch He-Man while I ate my Cap'n Crunch in the dining room. I was four years old. I accidentally pushed the TV over, bringing it smashing down on my finger. I had to get eight stitches and I eventually lost the fingernail. Kinect reviews Kinect hardware Kinectimals Kinect Sports Kinect Joy Ride Dance Central Sonic Free Riders Your Shape: Fitness Evolved I mention this only so you can fully appreciate the gravity of me saying that the half-hour I spent with Fighters Uncaged was the very worst TV-related thing that has ever happened to me. It's ugly, the fighting moves only work half of the time (except for ones like the straight right leg kick, which work none of the time). The training goes on forever before you get to the first round of actual fighting, which is against ... your trainer. It's terrible. I would erase Kinect from the fabric of time if it meant Fighters Uncaged would similarly be lost to the ether. I'm not giving it a score because I think scoring a game after a half hour sets a bad precedent, and I'd rather eat a rain-soaked box of poison buttholes than ever play Fighters Uncaged again.

  • Preview: Fighters Uncaged

First, the good news: Fighters Uncaged Prodcuer Luc Verdier recognizes that there have been too many casual, family-oriented games announced for the Kinect thus far, and says the game is his attempt to fix this. Now the bad news: based on a recent demo of the game at Gamescom, Fighters Uncaged utterly fails in this attempt. As you can see in this live demonstration video, the movement recognition for Fighters Uncaged is far from perfect at this point. Punches can be completely finished and retracted in the real world before they even start in the game, making it hard to string together quick combinations of moves. In fact, Verdier said combos in the final game would actually be activated using a quick-time event system, asking players to string together preset poses for an unblockable chain of attacks. A similar match-the-on-screen-pose system is already in place to dodge or block incoming attacks, and feels incredibly unwieldy.%Gallery-99720%

  • Overheard @ Gamescom: Competitive Kinect fighting is dangerous

Since shortly after the Wii Remote first brought motion control to the masses, we've known that over-enthusiastic use (and slippery hands) can lead to controllers (and other things) getting broken. So what happens when Kinect's 3D camera turns your entire body into the controller? Well, not surprisingly, it turns out you're the one that could get broken. "Versus mode was a bit too dangerous," Fighters Uncaged producer Luc Verdier said when asked about a competitive mode for his newly announced Kinect-enabled fighting game. "It's possible to do, but people just end up hitting each other." Thus, the game's only multiplayer mode is a cooperative battle, where two players work together against the artificial intelligence. Of course, people don't usually end up killing one another while playing games like Just Dance, even if four players are moving about in an enclosed space. But Verdier said motion-controlled games where multiple players are synchronized are safer than games where the players can just "do whatever." We'd also hazard to guess that dancing players just tend to be less intentionally violent than fighting game players, especially when those fighting game players are actively playing.

  • Ubisoft announces Fighters Uncaged for Kinect ... why were they caged in the first place?

Look, we're just gonna cut to the quick on this one: Fighters Uncaged is a new fighting game for Xbox 360 Kinect and it doesn't look promising. We'll lay it out for you in bullet point format: It's a Kinect title due in November and we're just hearing about it now It's a fighting game using Kinect – see attached gallery for real-life images of people punching the air with all their might It has some truly terrible character design (Exhibit A and Exhibit B) There's a typo on the above screen: 'Exausted' In order to execute "super strikes" you "need to shout while unleashing your strike," says Project Manager Luc Verdier On Joystiq's patented "Start-to-Bandanna'd-Gangster" scale, it earns an impressive score of "0 seconds" In fact, the only good thing we can see is that it's by a newly created developer named AMA Studios. Yeah, an unproven developer would normally be a bad sign, but get this: They're located in Belgium. You know what else is located in Belgium? Jean-Claude Van Damme. It's a country full of french fries and ass-kicking. Find the trailer after the break. %Gallery-99720%
