Getac 9213 "business rugged" laptop tones down the toughness, the ugly

Looking for something a little tougher than your average notebook yet a little less fugly than your typical Toughbook? Getac's 9213 is a "business rugged" device that sports a full magnesium alloy chassis, a spill-resistant keyboard and touchpad, and a 13.3-inch WXGA display. With a 45nm Intel Core 2 Duo Penryn-class ULV processor, 3GB of RAM, a shock-mounted HDD (up to 250GB), and a battery life of up to eight hours, this guy shouldn't be slouch as far as performance goes -- and if that weren't enough you can swap out the optical drive for a second battery (extending its life another fifty percent or so). As you'd imagine, the connectivity options here include draft-n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, and an optional 3.75G HSUPA module. Man, we can't wait to put this bad boy through one of our sadistic torture tests! Available now with an MSRP of $1,799.

For those of you in need of a PC capable of operating in extreme conditions (anyone reading this from a mine shaft or a bunker, for instance). Getac's battle-tested and war-weary V100 convertible tablet PC has received several key upgrades, including a bump in processing power to a 1.4 GHz Intel Penryn, a front side bus increased from 533 MHz to 800 MHz, a RAM increase (bringing the total up to 4GB), and a max capacity increase from 250GB to 320GB. If that weren't enough, this bad boy now supports draft 802.11n WiFi, and lastly (but not leastly) a new UL 1604 certification (optional) ensures safe, spark-free use of the device in potentially explosive environments. Yes, that's right -- you'll soon be able to read The Onion from the shop floor at the TNT factory. No definite prices or release dates yet, but if this is up your alley you can keep an eye on your usual sources. Full PR after the break.

Getac's rugged PS535E Windows Mobile handheld does GPS

We've seen ourselves some major ugly in the past when it comes to rugged devices, so while this new Getac PS535E won't be swiping any work from Jonathan Ive in the near future, it won't make him cry either, which is certainly a step in the right direction. The internals are decent as well, with GPS, 802.11b/g WiFi and Bluetooth, a 400MHz Samsung processor, 64MB of SDRAM and 2GB of flash storage. There's a transflective 3.5-inch QVGA touchscreen fronting the device, and Windows Mobile 5.0 Premium is holding it all together. No word on price or availability.

GETAC's E100 tablet PC won't bog you down, will take a beating

Prior to today, it had certainly been a hot, hot minute since we'd heard a peep out of GETAC, but here we are peeking the firm's second new product in as many days. The E100 tablet PC weighs in at just three pounds, but this dainty gizmo reportedly meets MIL-STD-810F and IP54 standards for "durability and protection against dirt, dust, water, motion, vibration, temperature and other factors that would severely damage or disable a commercial-grade PC." Beyond its tough attire, you'll find an 8.4-inch SVGA display (optional sunlight readable) with 800 nits of brightness, an 800MHz Intel Stealey processor, up to 1GB of DDR2 RAM, 60 to 100GB shock-resistant hard drive, 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 and optional WWAN / GPS to boot. Sadly, we're not even given a clue as to how much this bad boy will cost, but we'll go ahead and assume "pricey" to be on the safe side.

GETAC B300 rugged laptop with LED backlight, "Night Vision"

It's all about 13.3-inch LED backlit displays these days, and apparently even ruggedized military computers are no exception. The new B300 from GETAC features a 13.3-inch XGA "sunlight-readable" display with 1200 nits of brightness. There's also a processor-based display tech built in based on the US Army's night vision spec to auto-adjust for brightness when used at night for improved safety in military and law enforcement situations. The Core 2 Duo L7500 processor is a bit mundane, but the laptop boasts 12 hours of battery life, and the case is watertight, and vibration and drop resistant. Other perks include Bluetooth 2.0, 3G data and GPS as options. No word on price, but hopefully Uncle Sam can afford a few.

GETAC's latest rugged laptop does something that most other units simply can't, as it conveniently converts into a tablet while maintaining that beefy stature and war-tested agility. The V100 is fresh out of FCC boot camp, and judging by the documentation, it looks like it's been cleared for civilian handling. Inside the 11.2- x 8.7- x 1.9-inch enclosure sits a 1.2GHz ULV Intel Yonah U2500 Core Duo processor, up to 2GB of RAM, Intel's 945GMS integrated graphics set, a shock-mounted SATA hard drive, gigabit Ethernet, a 56k modem, WiFi, and of course, optional 3G, Bluetooth, and GPS connectivity. You also get your choice of a 10.4-inch XGA or 12.1-inch WXGA screen, a smorgasbord of ports, Windows XP, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, and a magnesium alloy case that shouldn't have any issues with vibrations, drops, shocks, or extreme temperatures. Unfortunately, there's no details concerning price or a planned release date, but we can't imagine a battlefield-ready convertible landing without some sort of premium.
