Most of us will have a couple of days off at the start of the year before getting back to work after the holidays, and Netflix hopes to keep us occupied with a slew of show and movie additions. January 1st brings the final season of A Series of Unfortunate Events, along with stand-up series Comedians of the World and Tidying Up with Marie Kondo -- perfectly timed to inspire a start-of-year clear out.

Streaming shows stand a much better chance of winning SAG Awards in 2019 than they did this year -- in fact, they're guaranteed at least one. The Screen Actors Guild has announced its nominees for the 25th annual awards, and streaming productions are thriving in every series-focused (that is, TV-focused) category. Most of those categories have two or more streaming shows in the running, and the "Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series" category has nothing but online shows. Voters will have to choose between GLOW, Grace and Frankie and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, with Grace and Maisel receiving two nominations each for that award.

Netflix is determined to start 2016 with a bang. As part of a broader premier announcement, the streaming service has revealed that Jessica Jones is getting a second season at some point in the near future. The move isn't exactly shocking given both Netflix's marketing blitz for the show, its critical praise and the need to flesh out the on-screen Marvel universe (there are plans for a Luke Cage series, for instance). Still, it's big news for fans -- the first season drew acclaim not just for its gritty take on a normally squeaky-clean world, but its ability to tackle serious issues (such as abusive relationships and sexual consent) with intelligence.

Netflix debuts its new series Grace and Frankie that reunites stars Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda, as HBO premieres a new Kurt Cobain documentary tonight. On Blu-ray, the acclaimed movie Selma is joined by several old-but-goodies, with new editions of Mad Max, Duel, Ladyhawke, Goodfellas and The Terminator. Look after the break to check out each day's highlights, including trailers and let us know what you think (or what we missed).

Sure, Netflix's first Marvel superhero series Daredevil premieres in just a few hours, but it has more on the way. Season three of Orange is the New Black is coming up June 12th, as well as a new series Grace and Frankie starring Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda May 8th -- check the trailers for both after the break. The blessing and the curse that is binge watching means each new series drop may only be satisfying for a couple of days (or just one long night), but the streaming service still has quite a packed lineup.
