  • Mistwalker's Sakaguchi to discuss new project next Spring

We've got a double dose of disappointment in Mistwalker news for you today, folks. Not only is Hironobu Sakaguchi's most recent blog post completely devoid of any Lego building advice, but it also appears that the game he's been working on -- a game said to be nearly done -- won't be announced until "around Spring next year." According to a translation by Siliconera, the Final Fantasy veteran apologized for his lack of communication on the title and the further delay in any real information. Unfortunately, it seems we still have a bit longer before that Lego Lost Odyssey announcement finally occurs. On second thought ... we can actually wait on that news. [Via Siliconera]

  • MS announces new Platinum Hits ... for Singapore

A tipster informs us that Microsoft has announced a new batch of Platinum Hits for Singapore. The new titles include Project Gotham Racing 4, Forza Motorsport 2, Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom, Halo 3 and Lost Odyssey. The new hits all appear to sport the new packaging that was spotted last week. All the games, incidentally, are priced at SGD $39.90 (USD $26).It's worth noting that all of these games, aside from Forza 2, have yet to become Platinum Hits in North America. Granted, each region has different titles in the value range, but we'd say it's a safe bet that at least PGR4 and Halo 3 should make the cut on this side of the pond. Hopefully the redesigned packaging is a sign that Microsoft will announce new titles soon. Stay tuned.[Thanks, Cylus]

We don't know about you, but the list of things we could do for 50 hours and still want more of is an extremely short one. Well, there's breathing, natch. Then there's the obvious. But for us, the list ends there. Apparently though, there's some people who finished the 50 hours or so of Lost Odyssey and are still craving more. ... Or, at least, Microsoft's hoping they are. The company will release the Seeker of the Deep dungeon pack on Friday for 400 points ($5).Is another helping of Lost Odyssey something you're in the mood for? Or have you moved on to other, more easily locatable expeditions?[Thanks, zewone]

Remember the Lost Odyssey downloadable content we mentioned yesterday? You know, the Triple Bonus Pack DLC that is actually available to non-Japanese Xbox Live regions? The same Lost Odyssey DLC that's 200 Microsoft points and includes three new items including the "Shattered Bond", "Killer Machine" and the "Memory Lamp"? Oh, you do remember? Good, because it's now available to all Xbox Live regions for purchase off the Marketplace. Enjoy!

What're 200 points worth to you? Wait, don't answer yet, because a new DLC pack for Lost Odyssey released today may just change your whole perception of the value of a point. The "Triple Bonus Pack" adds "'Memory Lamp,' which allows you to watch the past event scenes all over again, 'Shattered Bond,' an antique that will bring back the memory of a forgotten dream, and a special ring, 'Killer Machine,'" all for 200 points ($2.50). Now, we don't know what any of those words meant, but they sounded awesome. Also, just as a reminder, the "SSC Challenge" pack for Army of Two also arrived today for 600 points on XBL or $7.50 on PSN. If you sample any of today's DLC, make sure you let us know if they're worth the digi-dollars in the comments.

Finally, after numerous pieces of downloadable content have graced the Japanese Marketplace, Lost Odyssey fans in other Live regions will get in on the DLC fun.A new 200 Microsoft point Lost Odyssey DLC bonus pack will release on Friday, April 25th to North America (and, more than likely, to the European) XBLM and feature a new dream sequence and a few new items. "The Shattered Bond" will allow plays to experience a new dream, the "Killer Machine" ring will give extra protection against magic-powered weapons and the "Memory Lamp" will let players re-live previous dreams. The DLC may be a tad bit on the expensive side, but at least it's available outside of Japan. Right?

As if two sets of downloadable content weren't enough, our gaming friends over in Japan are set to get a third piece of Lost Odyssey DLC this Thursday, April 10th. The new Seeker of the Abyss DLC is another dungeon, located in the sea and features a new Eternal Magic Engine that helps with MP consumption. Seeker of the Abyss will be available exclusively to Japanese gamers for 400 Microsoft points and, just like the other two DLC sets, no North American release has been announced. Though, we suspect Microsoft would want to start releasing these before Lost Odyssey's luster wears thin Stateside.

  • Rumor: Lost Odyssey sequels on the way

Will the epic Japanese RPG Lost Odyssey be a one-off piece of gaming history, or is the title destined for franchising and perennial iterations? As much as we wish it were the former, a brief quote from a Microsoft exec suggests that the "odyssey" may only be getting started.Speaking with the executive officer for Microsoft Japan's Home & Entertainment division, Nikkei Trendy reports that the company is pleased with the sales of Lost Odyssey, and expects the popularity of the "series" to grow over time. While this could very well be a miscommunication, it's certainly logical to assume that Microsoft would want to extend the life of one the 360's few JRPGs.[Via ALLRPG]

Microsoft just launched a new marketing campaign whose main aim is to get you trained so that when someone mentions the letters RPG your instant response will be Xbox 360. The Best RPGs Are On Xbox 360 is the campaign's name and highlights some of the best of the best RPGs that grace the Xbox 360 including Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Mass Effect, Oblivion and of course Fable 2. Simply head to Xbox.com to get the dish on these super RPGs and if your interest is piqued, make your way to Gamestop. There you will find a free retail disc that comes packed with information on these "Best RPGs" as well as never before seen videos of Fable 2 and the complete Sci-Fi channel "Sci vs Fi" episode featuring Mass Effect. Now how can you not agree? The Xbox 360 is hands down the best place to find RPGs ... just none that are on the Playstation platform.

  • Rumor: Lost Odyssey to get sequel

With the first of Mistwalker's exclusive 360 franchises already rumored to be getting a sequel, it would be remiss if there wasn't a reciprocating rumor for the second franchise. So, to be proper as possible, here we are reporting on a rumor of just that. Nikkei Trendy.net, a Japanese game site, posted an interview with the H&E Head of Microsoft. In the interview he made a comment to the effect of being satisfied with the games initial Japanese sales, and that the series will grow with time. Wait ... how can there be a series when there has only been one game? Well, there's actually several explanations here. The first and most likely explanation is translation error, it's probable that the translator simply didn't think much and used the word "series" when the original meaning was closer to "IP". The second possibility is that it is of course all too true, and the game is getting a sequel. Readers, what do you think? Is the game worthy of a sequel? If it is being made, should Mistwalker drop it in favor of their rumored MMO?

Judging from what we had seen of Lost Odyssey before its release, we pretty much figured we had it pegged, and the reviews that have popped up since have only cemented our first impressions. By all accounts, it seems to be a competent, well-polished effort that is extremely traditional, if not derivative of games in the genre before it. But for those who are fans of that genre, it seems to be a solid choice. 1UP (80/100): "While Lost Odyssey's overarching tale is effective enough as a generic RPG plot filled with political intrigue, it really only serves to get the player from Point A to Point B. The storytelling is most compelling when dealing with the interaction between characters, whether it's Kaim and Sarah's intriguing relationship, Seth's pirate past, or the sexual tension (?) between Jansen and Queen Ming." Eurogamer (80/100): "Given the involvement of hotshot RPG superstars like Final Fantasy creators Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu, it should come as no surprise that Lost Odyssey is utterly, utterly traditional. ... Given the involvement of Mistwalker's hotshot superstars, it should come as no surprise to find that it's superbly polished." Gamespy (50/100):"While it's certainly playable, it feels like more of a relic than perhaps its creators intended. Basic features and dungeon design are handled with the graceful hand of a master designer, but that doesn't compensate for numerous gameplay, storytelling and technical issues. Fans of old-fashioned Japanese-style RPGs will doubtlessly find aspects to enjoy, but this is not the title that will vault Mistwalker to the triple-A status the studio's hype might suggest."

Another week, another batch of brand new games for the Xbox 360. The biggest game this week is undoubtedly Lost Odyssey. Of course, given its nature, Lost Odyssey will draw one of two reactions: excited, nerdy screams or decidedly protracted yawns. X3F seems to be relatively split on the subject (we all dig the commercial though). Not to fear if Japanese RPGs aren't your thing though, as we've also got some Conflict: Denied Ops action and even some new Xbox Originals to download. Behold!
