Tech doesn't work with children and animals
It's a tale as old as time: Kids and animals don't mix with tech. Whether it's little Billy turning your new flatscreen on and off until it burns out or Rover chewing through another pair of fancy headphones, you'd think we'd know better by now that letting pretty much anything that isn't capable of voting near technology is a bad idea. But as you're about to find out, sometimes it just can't be helped.
Laura Bush: iPad drawing app inspired GWB's painting hobby
Today, the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum is being dedicated on the campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. David Greene of NPR talked to former first lady Laura Bush about the library as well as her husband, former President George W. Bush, and his new iPad-inspired hobby. About three minutes into the conversation, Mrs. Bush talks about her husband's new pastime, drawing. His hobby was kicked off when he downloaded an app and started sketching on his iPad. He communicated with Mrs. Bush and their daughter Jenna by sending them self-drawn images of things at home while they were traveling. You can listen to the Morning Edition clip on NPR's website.
How David Kestenbaum iMet his neighbor on iTunes
Are there any established rules of etiquette for meeting people through iTunes? NPR has a sweet story about David Kestenbaum's attempt to meet his musical "soulmate," a neighbor who piggybacked onto his WiFi connection and accidentally left her shared library accessible from his computer. The story proves to be part wish-fulfillment, part stalking, and partly poignant. It says something about the separate lives we lead in today's society and how computers can, or could, or maybe even can't, bring us together. If a total stranger rang your doorbell and said he admired your music, would you let him in? No? Me neither.
