PlayStation VR's adorable murine tale Moss finally has a release date. Next Tuesday, February 27th, you'll be able to guide the big-eared rodent Quill along her adventure on your PlayStation 4. When it debuted at E3 last year, developer Polyarc (made up, in part, of former Bungie and Rockstar Games alums) promised the mouse-scale adventure would be out by holiday, but the game was delayed until this spring. If you're curious how it'll play before you drop hard-earned cash, there's a demo version available as part of the free PSVR demo disc on the PlayStation Network Store. Need more convincing? Maybe the new trailer below will do the trick.

If your PlayStation VR has been collecting dust for awhile, Sony might have a few reasons for you to jack back in. Starting today, the contents of the demo disc that comes with new PSVR bundles are up for grabs on the PlayStation Store for free. Headlining the offerings are samples of the mousey Zelda-esque adventure Moss, horror offering The Persistence and Star Child, the 2.5D side-scroller from Playful. None of those are out until next year, so if you want to try something brand new, those are good places to start.

It's hard not to love Quill, the swashbuckling mouse heroine of Moss, an upcoming PlayStation VR game from Polyarc Games. She's adorable, with huge ears, a fetching adventurer's bandana and an ever-so-tiny backpack. And she kicks butt -- thanks to a grass sword, a badass gauntlet and plenty acrobatic skills. It's difficult to create new characters that players can instantly love, but Polyarc managed to do just that.

Seibu Kaihatsu's Raiden shoot-'em-up series will return on the Xbox One, a teaser trailer shown at Microsoft's TGS booth revealed this week. Tracing its origins back to the 1990 release of Raiden in arcades, the vertically scrolling series saw multiple ports and releases across 16- and 32-bit consoles. Arcade-born series predecessors Raiden 4 and Raiden Fighters Aces made appearances on the Xbox 360, and the upgraded Raiden 4: Overkill was revealed for the PlayStation 3 earlier this year. • Xbox One launching with 29 games in Japan, new titles announced

Microsoft's Xbox One console will hit Japan this September with a selection of 29 games at launch, and a lineup of new and previously unannounced games are slated for release in the months afterward. The Xbox One's Japanese launch lineup, reported by Siliconera, includes a number of North American launch-window releases like Call of Duty: Ghosts, Dead Rising 3, and Crimson Dragon, along with more recent games like Strider, Titanfall, and Murdered: Soul Suspect. Konami will support the hardware launch with Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, and Tecmo Koei will offer a port of Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate. CyberStep's free-to-play MMORPG Onigiri, announced as a PlayStation 4 exclusive in North America, will also be available for the Japanese Xbox One at launch. Microsoft additionally revealed (via Gematsu) that a handful of region-exclusive releases are on their way to the Xbox One in Japan in the coming months. Announced titles include Hamster's simulation game Azito, Qute's Natsuki Chronicle, Triangle Service's shoot-'em-up compilation Shooting Love Trilogy, and a new entry in Moss' long-running Raiden series. • The Game Archaeologist: Myst Online: Uru Live

The impact of Myst in 1993 was akin to an atomic bomb going off in the PC gaming world. The leap forward in graphical fidelity (aided by the large storage capacity of a CD-ROM and all of the full-motion video and gorgeous images tucked into it) captured gamers' imaginations and made this adventure title the best-selling PC game of all time, at least for several years. Brothers Robyn and Rand Miller's story about a stranger who had to solve puzzles through a good-looking (if deserted) landscape was devilishly difficult, yet that challenge kept players coming back for months and even years. The Myst franchise surged forward at that point, with several sequels, remakes, and ports selling like hotcakes through the final game's release in 2005. Yet something interesting happened along the way when an offshoot of the series -- Uru: Ages Beyond Myst -- evolved into an MMO. With a focus on multiplayer exploration and puzzle-solving instead of non-stop combat, it may be one of the very few MMOs out there that eschews fighting for brainpower. It's an oddity, no doubt, and despite it being an incredibly niche title, it has fascinated me enough to pull me into a research rabbit hole. So let's take a look at Myst Online: Uru Live!

  • Raiden 4: Overkill brings its killing over to North America next month

Raiden 4: Overkill is coming to North America on April 29, courtesy once again of UFO Interactive. The Californian publisher brought over the Xbox 360 version in 2009, and this time it's releasing the enhanced PS3 port just two weeks after Japan gets it. There's no word just yet on what price you'll have to pay for the arcade shoot-em-up. The PSN port is based on the Xbox 360 version, and the Overkill tag refers to a new mode that hopefully won't live up to its name. It's not confirmed if the Xbox 360 DLC - including the fairy ship who's lost her clothes - is bundled in as standard in the new PS3 version. [Image: UFO Interactive]

  • MOSS kits let you build the robot of your dreams with color-coded cubes

The big story at this year's Toy Fair was definitely STEM. That stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics -- four areas of study that educational companies and bureaucracies have been pushing more students to get involved with. So it was no surprise that, as we wandered the halls of the Jacob Javits Center, we were bombarded by Tinkertoy-like offerings, science sets and robotics kits. One of the more interesting was certainly MOSS, a collection of electronic blocks from the same company that brought us Cubelets. While the basic design certainly echoes that of its stablemate, MOSS actually seems to share more genetic code with littleBits than anything else. The system consists of a set of cubes with sensors, inputs and outputs, all color-coded for easy assembly. It is possible to assemble the parts in incorrect orders (unlike with Cubelets), which is why the sets are recommended for ages 8 and up.

  • Arcade-style shoot-'em-ups Raiden 4, Caladrius coming to PS3 in Japan

Japanese developer Moss announced that it will port its arcade-style shoot-'em-ups Caladrius and Raiden 4 to the PlayStation 3 next year, following up on previous releases for the Xbox 360. The PlayStation 3 version of Raiden 4, titled Raiden 4: Overkill, will boast a new gameplay mode when it premieres digitally via PSN this spring. Caladrius will make its PlayStation 3 debut later in 2014 with an additional stage and a new character not featured in the Xbox 360 release. While Raiden 4 saw a limited edition North American retail launch in 2009 courtesy of niche publisher UFO Interactive, Caladrius has remained a Japanese exclusive since its debut in April of this year. The PlayStation 3 versions of Raiden 4 and Caladrius have not been announced for overseas release.

  • Myst Online goes open source (again)

If a dictionary entry for the phrase "long, strange road" existed, it likely would feature an image from Myst Online. The fantasy MMORPG began its checkered life as the multiplayer component of 2003's Uru: Ages Beyond Mist before being scrapped and subsequently revived by GameTap in 2007. Cyan Worlds then acquired the title and released it as a free-to-play MMO, a strange move considering that the company also open-sourced Myst Online assets in 2008 but continued to support a commercial-grade centralized shard. This morning, Rock, Paper Shotgun tipped us to the fact that Cyan is once again fanning the flames of open source by announcing that the game's MOULA client engine and associated development tools (as well as a MOULA server replacement called MOSS) will be made available and hosted on OpenUru.org. "The goal of the open source CyanWorlds.com Engine and the MOSS server is to provide a playground where new writers can learn their craft, and new maintainers can inspect it, and new cartographers can map it. The Cyan Worlds MOULA servers will continue to provide a (relatively) safe environment for the D'ni faithful to mingle and share," explains Cyan's Rand Miller.
